The role
As a Combat Systems Analysis Engineer, you’ll play a crucial role in ensuring the Royal Navy’s submarine combat systems remain mission-ready. 


This is an opportunity to work at the cutting edge of naval engineering, focusing on the review of reporting data, identification of Learning from Experience (LFE), and ensuring that documentation and processes are continuously improved.


Day-to-day, you’ll regularly review a wide range of data sources, including Change Enquiries, Design Authority Requirement (DAR) packages, and defect reports (e.g., S2022(S) and UMMS tasks), to identify and prioritize LFE. You will also:

 

Collaborate with equipment authorities to recommend and implement changes, such as updates to technical manuals and maintenance documentation (e.g., BR amendments). Submit and track changes through the relevant change management processes, ensuring timely and effective resolution. Evaluate data to identify trends, underperforming equipment, or recurring issues, and develop recommendations to improve system capability and reliability.


This role combines technical analysis, collaborative problem-solving, and process improvement to ensure that critical combat systems operate at peak performance.


This role is full time, 35 hours per week and provides hybrid working arrangements at ether Bristol or Plymouth, two to three days in the office/onsite and two to three days working from home.


Essential experience of the Combat Systems Analysis Engineer

 

Operational or maintenance engineering experience with submarines or surface ships. Familiarity with defect reporting and management systems such as S2022(S), Operational Deficiencies (OPDEFs), UMMS, or equivalent. A solid understanding of change management processes within a defence or engineering context. A background in naval architecture, marine, mechanical, electrical engineering, or another STEM-related discipline.

 

Qualifications for the Combat Systems Analysis Engineer

 

A degree in a relevant STEM-based subject or equivalent experience (e.g., HND/Foundation Degree with substantial relevant experience).

 

Security Clearance
The successful candidate must be able to achieve and maintain Security Check (SC) security clearance for this role.
