Combustion (CT) Supervisor

Dickerson Generation Station, located in Dickerson, Maryland, is a power generation facility with a total capacity of approximately 294 MW. The station consists of two gas/oil-fired units with GE 7F gas turbines in simple cycle. It operates as a crucial asset for meeting peak demand and ensuring grid stability in the region.

Opportunity Summary

The Combustion Turbine (CT) Supervisor will oversee the daily operations of combustion turbines, ensuring they operate efficiently, safely, and within prescribed parameters. By conducting regular inspections, implementing performance optimization strategies, and utilizing advanced diagnostic tools, the Supervisor will proactively address potential issues and maximize turbine performance. Additionally, the Supervisor will manage both predictive and preventative maintenance programs, maintain detailed records, and provide comprehensive training to ensure high morale and adherence to safety and regulatory standards.

Primary Duties

Your scope of responsibility as CT Supervisor will include the following primary functions: 

Oversee the daily operations of combustion turbines, ensuring they operate within prescribed parameters for efficiency, output, and safety. Conduct regular inspections and performance tests on combustion turbines, identifying and addressing potential issues before they lead to operational disruptions. Implement and monitor performance optimization strategies, including tuning and calibration adjustments to maximize fuel efficiency and reduce emissions. Collaborate with engineering teams to develop and integrate advanced diagnostic tools for real-time monitoring and analysis of turbine performance. Develop and implement predictive maintenance strategies, leveraging data analysis and condition monitoring tools to foresee and mitigate potential equipment failures. Review and update the preventative maintenance schedule regularly, ensuring critical components are serviced within recommended intervals to maintain reliability and performance. Utilize the Computerized Maintenance Management System (CMMS) to document and manage work orders, including issuing, scheduling, delegation, completion, and backlog tracking. Oversee warehouse inventory management, ensuring the availability of critical spare parts and supplies, and collaborate with the purchasing department to procure equipment and materials in a cost-effective and timely manner, optimizing stock levels and supporting maintenance activities. Maintain databases for operational, maintenance, safety, and environmental work requests, ensuring compliance with contracts and regulatory requirements. Ensure optimal electrical output is maintained according to management, contractual, and dispatch requirements, adjusting as necessary for efficient performance. Monitor plant conditions, report abnormalities or emergencies to management, and take corrective actions as directed. Oversee the water chemistry program, ensuring proper testing, inspections, and maintenance to prevent damage and ensure safe plant operation. Provide training and guidance on the chemistry program to operations and maintenance personnel, ensuring adherence to safety protocols and PPE usage. Foster a positive work environment, maintaining high morale and motivation among operations and maintenance teams by addressing employee concerns promptly and effectively. Report to management and take appropriate actions in the best interest of the company and client services, ensuring alignment with operational goals. Provide direction to operations and maintenance personnel on equipment conditions, work order creation, execution, and follow-up for all maintenance activities (corrective, predictive, and preventative). Oversee and schedule training for all employees, maintaining training manuals and documenting completed training in the CMMS. Supervise the upkeep of plant logs and records, including the Operators Daily Site Logbook, Lock Out and Tag Out (LOTO) Logbook, and Jumper Logbook, ensuring accurate and chronological logging of operational events. Ensure plant manuals are updated with current policies and procedures, maintaining copies at each site for reference. Implement a "Management of Change" process to document revisions, ensuring electronic communication is used to update all employees. Collaborate with the Area Manager and Maintenance Manager, completing tasks as requested and ensuring alignment with overall operational goals.

Working Relationships

The CT Supervisor reports to the Operations Manager and receives general direction from other plant Management. This role may involve supervising and overseeing some Operations and Maintenance personnel, as well as coordinating with all plant personnel.

Physical Requirements and Working Conditions

Physical requirements include the possibility of standing for extended periods of time, stair and ladder climbing and lifting up to 50 pounds. Protective equipment must be worn in the performance of some duties (e.g., hard hats, safety glasses, air masks, ear protection, chemical suits, hot gloves, and high voltage protective equipment, etc.). There are extensive smoking restrictions in and around the facility.

Fitness for Duty

All employees will participate in the Fitness for Duty Program. This program includes a post-offer physical examination and drug screening and post-employment random drug screening. 

Work Schedule

Position requires extended working hours and varied shifts with the possibility of weekend and holiday work, as required by schedules, workload, and plant conditions. "On call" status will periodically be required.

Compensation

Initial starting compensation will range from $125,000 to $155,000 and will include an annual performance bonus.

Job Qualifications

A Bachelor's degree in Mechanical Engineering, Electrical Engineering, or a related field is required. Advanced coursework or certifications in power plant operations, turbine technology, or maintenance management are highly desirable. Equivalent experience in lieu of formal education may be considered. Proven experience in the operation, maintenance, and troubleshooting of combustion turbines and related systems. Proficiency in developing and implementing predictive and preventative maintenance strategies, utilizing tools such as vibration analysis, thermography, and CMMS. Ability to use advanced diagnostic tools and techniques for real-time monitoring and performance analysis of turbine systems. Strong understanding of environmental regulations, safety standards, and compliance requirements relevant to power plant operations. Experience in managing work orders, scheduling maintenance tasks, and maintaining accurate records using CMMS software. Demonstrated ability to lead, train, and motivate a team of technicians, ensuring high performance and adherence to safety protocols. Must possess a valid and unrestricted driver's license, ensuring it remains in good standing at all times.
