The role interfaces with Counterparty Due Diligence (CDD), Ethics & Compliance (E&C), Global Business Services (GBS) and support functions for oil origination activities in Brazil and requires balancing independence, controls & compliance mindset with a business enabling partnership.
Reporting to the Commercial Manager for RPTA, the Commercial Analyst role is the key point of contact for the trading and origination functions in Latin America to provide support and facilitate the onboarding process as well as the periodic reviews of T&S counterparties in country, directly collaborating with the CDD team in London and Budapest, E&C team and GBS group in Budapest (as required). This role requires direct understanding of T&S activity in Brazil and its nuances as well as BP’s global compliance and Counterparty Due Diligence policies and procedures and its application to T&S origination activity sets throughout Latin America. This role will also involve engaging with Originators and Traders to understand the potential new opportunities, evaluating all aspects from the risk & control aspects of the transactions as well as provide support to the Commercial Manager on implementation of broader supporter for the team with growing the business in Latin America.
Key Accountabilities
Support Traders and Originators in the KYC/due diligence on counterparties seeking to establish business relationships with Trading & Shipping in Latin America (including but not limited to Brazil, Colombia, Mexico, Chile, Argentina, Peru and Ecuador)
Build and enhance effective interaction and communication with key stakeholders in Brazil, London, Budapest and other regions/groups to facilitate the CDD process
Influence and initiate improvements to current CDD processes to aid effective and efficient procedures, addressing some of the nuances of doing business throughout Latin America and local market practices
Work with local Traders and Originators on the understanding of initiatives/ opportunities, its nuances and local market practices and escalate all concerns and issues to senior Front Office managers and CDD levels as appropriate
Prioritize new counterparty requests as well as periodic CDD reviews
Support regular activity reporting and counterparty population maintenance process
Provide accurate and complete information to CDD teams on proposed business transactions and nature of business of prospective counterparties
Assist CDD in Budapest and London in collecting other local information on existing and prospective counterparties as and when required and follow up document requests with counterparties
Assist with translations of documents in local language to English and vice versa as appropriate and needed
Provide broader support of Latin America commercial opportunities
Education and Experience
Bachelor’s Degree in related field or equivalent experience required
MBA or other certification that includes internal controls & compliance matters of expertise desired
3 plus years of experience in KYC/AML/due diligence, control, compliance or finance area
Basic knowledge of the KYC/AML function with a client service orientation
Good analytical skills and detail oriented
Proactive and independent
Ability to multitask and prioritize and ensuring effective processes and procedures
Good customer service, communication and interpersonal skills
Ability to work as part of a team in a fast-paced and very deadline orientated environment
Independent thinker and creative in finding alternative solutions
Fluent in Portuguese, Spanish and English
