The Commercial Banking Summer Internship program is tailored towards college students interested in pursuing a banking career, specifically in the commercial credit underwriting, portfolio management and commercial relationship management areas. This is an internship program that partners college students with Sunflower Bank mentors to gain first-hand experience in the Commercial Banking sector.


Internships are available in Dallas, Texas at our Preston Road office, 8117 Preston Road, Suite 220, Dallas, TX 75225.

We are accepting up to four candidates for this program. The program can start on or after May 28, 2025 and end anytime on or before Wednesday, August 6, 2025. Duration of the program will be discussed at time of offer.


Responsibilities:

Learn and become proficient in spreading financial statements, reviewing, and analyzing financial and credit information, such as financial statements, tax returns and credit reports to determine creditworthiness for borrowers and guarantors.Receive regular training on the fundamentals of banking while developing soft relationship building skills. You will also have access to senior leaders at the bank for the opportunity to network and seek guidance.Observe and prepare detailed financial and analytical reports for each entity analyzed, including historical financial data and trends, detailed cash flow analysis, global cash flow analysis, and simple projections.Research pertinent industry and market information relevant to customers’ lines of business to develop value proposition and marketing plan with Commercial Sales team.Assist in the completion of Annual Grade Reviews assessing the industry, financial strength of the borrower, secondary and tertiary sources of repayment and internal credit rating,Attend joint calls with Commercial Bankers, Portfolio Managers and bank executives along with clients or prospects to gather more information about the business.Assist Portfolio Managers and Credit Executives on live transactions with work that may include; researching a prospect, client or industry, spreading financial statements, contributing to financial models, conducting market research and developing marketing materials.Work with team to understand target customer profile and utilize resources to source customers.Participate in and observe the development of new business while collaborating with various members of the deal team.Meet with other lines of business to gain an understanding on products, processes and services in Wealth Management and Private Banking, Treasury Management, Mortgage, Retail, Business Banking, Banking Operations, etc.Understand and adhere to all applicable federal and state laws and regulations, including, but not limited to, the Bank Secrecy Act (BSA) and related anti-money laundering laws and Office of Foreign Asset Controls (OFAC).
