Commercial Counsel – 5-7 years PQE – Belfast (Hybrid)

Marsh McLennan has an exciting opportunity for a Global Procurement Lawyer looking to progress their career within the world’s leading professional services firm in risk, strategy and people.

The position would likely be suitable for a candidate with previous experience in commercial/contract work cross-border, ideally with a privacy/technology background. You would need to be a self-starter with the ability to quickly grasp the risks, issues and opportunities faced by the organisation across different jurisdictions.

What can you expect:

As a Global Procurement Lawyer at MMC, you will play a crucial role in providing legal support and guidance to our global procurement function

Based in the Belfast office, you will be the lead lawyer negotiating vendor contracts on a global basis for MMC as well as the Marsh and Mercer businesses

You will be responsible for ensuring compliance with applicable laws and regulations, negotiating and drafting procurement contracts, and managing legal risks associated with procurement activities across our global operations

 This position offers an exciting opportunity to work in a dynamic and fast-paced environment, collaborating with cross-functional teams and contributing to the success of our global procurement function

Sitting within the Marsh Mercer Legal team, you would work closely with the business and the vendor management team on day-to-day contractual and strategic procurement matters. The role will also involve being a key contributor to the development our risk positions in this area

We will count on you to:

Being the lead lawyer to support on vendor contracts globally

Working closely with the global contracting centres of excellence (currently based in Belfast and Toronto)

Supporting the wider vendor management team with internal projects and various legal matters

Drafting, reviewing and negotiating vendor agreements and ancillary legal documentation

Supporting the legal team in maintaining template agreements, playbooks and implementing process developments

Confidently liaising with the business on day-to-day contractual queries and leading on key vendor negotiations

What you need to have: 

5-7 years+ PQE

Excellent organisational skills and attention to detail

Document drafting and negotiation skills

Strong commercial acumen with an ability to deliver clear and pragmatic solutions 

Ability to effectively identify risk issues and escalate upwards, as appropriate

Previous experience working in a fast-paced environment, manging multiple deadlines and tasks

Effectively able to prioritise work by understanding competing demands and making appropriate judgments regarding relative importance

Excellent communication skills with the ability to manage expectations well

Confidently able to communicate with various stakeholders both internally and externally

Experience working with data protection legislation and negotiating DPAs

Maintain up-to-date legal knowledge to ensure compliance with relevant policies and legislation

Able to take initiative, is proactive and confidently able to take ownership of matters and develop self

A team player that offers to help colleagues and shares workload

Understand the various business offerings within the organisation

IT skills – experience with Microsoft Office.

Enthusiastic and looking to develop a long-term career in-house.

LLB or equivalent legal qualification.
