The Commercial Manager plays a critical function in project delivery, helping project managers and teams achieve successful project outcomes, both for WSP and our clients. The Commercial Manager is seen as a key member of the project and acts as a bridge between the project team and operations throughout the project lifecycle. Commercial Managers are used on high-risk projects (Alt-D or large-scale contracts). Commercial Manager services are job chargeable. The Commercial Manager role is scalable and does not need to be a full-time role for many projects.
The Commercial Manager, together with the Project Manager, is responsible for identifying and managing issues across a variety of project elements (scope, schedule, cost, risk, quality, resources, safety, client relations) and provides timely follow-up, enlisting help from others within the business to remove barriers to success. The Commercial Manager plays a major role in driving the commercial and strategic outcomes of the project.
Core Responsibilities:
+ Work with PM/PA to develop Margin Analysis/project setup.
+ Development and maintenance of contract compliance checklist.
+ Project kick-off meeting participation (internal and external).
+ Support development and negotiation of Client amendments and supplements in direct coordination with PM (1) Development and negotiation of Subcontracts and sub-consultant amendments and supplements (2) Monitor, create and/or distribute project commercial metrics (e.g. earned value, cost tracking, schedule) (3) Proactive management of project commercials including DSO.
+ Manage project costs in an effective and efficient way that delivers cost-savings.
+ Develop relationship with Project Accountant (and project controls as appropriate) to provide project team and business with sufficient support.
+ Development and monitoring of Work-At-Risk documentation as needed.
+ Development and monitoring of Work Above Cost Budget documentation as needed.
+ Contingency Drawdown management.
+ Preparation for and participation in project reviews and support of follow-up activities.
+ Coordination with PM, PA, PDM and LQL to address areas of focus.
+ Project Closeout review.
+ Collaborate with professionals from a variety of disciplines to provide future ready solutions for clients.
+ Exercise responsible and ethical decision-making regarding company funds, resources and conduct, and adhere to WSP’s Code of Conduct and related policies and procedures.
+ Perform additional responsibilities as required by business needs.
Who You Are
Required Qualifications:
+ Bachelor’s Degree in Engineering, Business, Finance, Accounting, or related discipline.
+ At least 5 to 7 years’ experience in project delivery and commercial aspects of project execution; experience in transit and transportation projects is a plus.
+ Understands project management principles and practices and their alignment with our business model.
+ Proficient in project financial management.
+ Experience with various contract types (fixed price, target price, CPFF, CPM).
+ Sound knowledge of risk management processes, including risk assessment and mitigation.
+ Balance a strategic view, with a strong focus on commercial results and business processes.
+ Strong critical thinking skills; analytical; inquisitive; solutions oriented.
+ Ability to communicate effectively and professionally (oral and written).
+ Organized, responsive, persistent, and supportive.
+ Ability to independently organize and carry out assignments with minimum direction as well as to function effectively as a leader of highly professional personnel.
+ Advanced Microsoft Office skills (Word, Excel, PowerPoint, SharePoint).
+ Proven track record of upholding workplace safety and ability to abide by WSP’s health, safety and drug/alcohol and harassment policies.
+ Strong ability to quickly adapt to change and demonstrate flexibility to a variety of schedules and hours to meet business needs.
+ Occasional travel may be required depending on project-specific requirements.

Compensation:
Expected Salary (all locations): $ 83,200.00 - $145,600
WSP USA is providing the compensation range that the company in good faith believes it might pay and offer for this position, based on the successful applicant’s education, experience, knowledge, skills, abilities in addition to internal equity and specific geographic location. WSP USA reserves the right to ultimately pay more or less than the posted range and offer additional benefits and other compensation, depending on circumstances not related to an applicant’s sex or other status protected by local, state, and/or federal law
