This position is in Cargill’s agricultural supply chain business. We sit at the heart of the supply chain, partnering with farmers and customers to source, make and deliver essential products.

What we offer 

Our Commercial Merchandising Trainee program offers a unique opportunity to unlock your full potential and develop yourself as a future leader in our commodity merchandising team. You will learn about the agricultural commodities merchandising industry and how we operate in a rapidly changing economic environment. Additionally, you will broaden your understanding of local supply and demand factors that impact markets and commercial decisions to generate revenue. You will also initiate and negotiate terms of commodity purchases and collaborate with our supply chain and plant operations teams to fulfill commodity contracts for our customers in a timely manner. 

As a Commercial Merchandising Trainee in Nantes, you will join our Corn team and work closely with the Wheat and Barley teams. You will: 

Collaborate with planning, transportation and logistics, quality assurance, customer and credit managers to ensure efficient execution and resolve routine issues Plan purchases and transportation to maximize the profitable use of stock and storage facilities Research and analyze various freight opportunities in the local marketplace to maximize margins. 

Our French team works closely with other trading teams based in Spain, Germany, Poland, and the Netherlands. 

As part of this traineeship, you will join our two-year Next Generation Graduate Program where you will collaborate with a diverse group of individuals from across EMEA, enriching each other while addressing business challenges. What we look for  

Required qualifications 

Master’s degree / Bac+4 & 5 with major in Agriculture or Agronomy, Economics, Finance, Trade, Sustainability Fluency in English and French 

Preferred qualifications 

General understanding and strong interest in geo-political dynamics and trends  Strong communication and influencing skills High integrity and ethical standards Natural leadership ability, motivation, initiative, risk appetite and resilience Ability to work in multi-cultural and multi-functional teams Curiosity to learn and create new ways of building and improving systems and processes Strong data and analytical skills and ability to proactively identify and resolve problems 


Selection process 

The selection process is a discovery for both of us and starts with an introductory video interview with a recruiter. It is followed by a half-day in-person meeting with the team in our office, usually consisting of two rounds of interviews. The finalists will be invited to complete an online assessment and have a video interview with the regional leads. A business case study may be introduced as part of the process.
