The job:

The Commercial Transport Apprentice Mechanic will receive on-the-job training on performing inspections, preventative maintenance, and will assist with minor repairs to ensure proper performance and safety of company vehicles. This individual will learn how to properly maintain commercial motor vehicles according to DOT regulations and Company standards.

A day in the life* of a Heavy-Duty Technician:

Assessing all equipment is in working order and perform all safety checks.Actively participating of daily huddle to distribute daily priorities based on operations and safety needs.Performing assigned tasks.Other responsibilities may include:Executing preventative Maintenance, including basic vehicle servicing to engine or transmission overhaul.Diagnosing and repairing operational difficulties with heavy duty trucks and equipment.Completing reports, work orders, order parts and perform other administrative duties.Planning and scheduling repairs in M5 planner and procure all parts for successful plan.Assisting in the review of mechanical write-ups on equipment and coordinate repair schedule.Completing other responsibilities, as requested by management.Attending to service calls as needed, or emergent situations in the field.Performing afternoon assigned tasks, either continuing tasks from the morning or starting new onesCleaning up work areas

What’s required:

Heavy Duty Technicians must be able to:High school diploma or general education degree (GED); technical diploma is preferred.Minimum of one (1) year experience as a diesel mechanicAbility to be trained on software systems and the willingness to learn.Meet relevant criteria for safety sensitive functions according to Company standards.Experience using diagnostic software is a plus.Follow detailed instructions, work independently and maintain accurate records.Ability to effectively and safely operate vehicles and equipment associated with the job.Possess physical ability to perform all aspects of job.
