Position Overview: 

 

As a Commodity Management Professional for Siemens Mobility Rolling Stock, you will serve as the primary procurement contact between local management, internal clients, and the supply chain management organization. You will collaborate with key departments including Material Management, Quality Management, Engineering, and the bid team. Your understanding of the global supplier market is a plus.  We will rely on your exceptional negotiation skills to build value regarding key metrics like cost, lead time, and quality. In this role, you will drive performance with suppliers, collaborate with internal teams, and make your mark within a team passionate about winning, succeeding, and making an impact.


What your day to day will look like:

 

You will be the main contact/interface within procurement and your supply base for all inquiries in proposal and execution phase for assigned Fabrication and Metal Parts commodities. Your responsibilities will include the commercial evaluation of proposals, conducting negotiations, and preparing contract documents that cover price, scope, schedule, contractual terms, and other applicable conditions. You will lead supplier technical reviews with Engineering and Quality, drive clarifications, and provide innovative solutions to address highly sophisticated supply/supplier problems. Collaboration with Project Procurement Management (PPM), Engineering, Quality, the Global Sourcing Team, and others will be crucial to strategize the best outcomes for Siemens.  Additionally, you will coordinate and lead local or regional focus teams to achieve optimum conditions and savings through collaborative cross-divisional sourcing activities. Define, adapt, and implement commodity strategies based on demand, market intelligence, and supplier analysis to ensure a long-term, cost-efficient supply of materials and services. Identify procurement risks, opportunities, and market forces to avoid business exposure and exploit potential opportunities will be part of your role. Lead the supply base through supplier selection, qualification, development, and regular performance evaluations to develop the best suppliers and ensure an optimum supply chain. Strategically developing and implementing the digitalization roadmap of the category by driving or supporting digitalization activities across assigned commodities will also be part of your responsibilities. Identify and drive innovative solutions to influence the market and implement new or modified market sourcing strategies.


To thrive in this role, you have:

 

Bachelor’s degree in supply chain management, or related field is preferred, or equivalent experience. 5+ years of related experience in procurement, project management, or engineering.  Train experience a plus. Proven knowledge in Supply Chain Management, Strategic Sourcing, Commodity Management, Procurement Market Analysis, commercial terms and conditions, and high-mix low volume production. Highly refined negotiating skills. Detailed track record of effectively negotiating sophisticated, high-dollar contracts for products or services. Proven track record of being bold, proactive, self-motivated, and willing to go above and beyond is necessary. Plan, coordinate, and analyze data to build recommendations on sourcing strategies with implications for vendor selection, through Total Cost of Ownership analysis. Ability to present specific content accurately to respective target groups Full understanding of early involvement levers (E-Auction, GVS sourcing, bundling, etc.) is a plus. Ability to travel domestically/internationally.


Preferred Knowledge/Skills, Education, and Experience:


High mix low volume Metal Fabrication processing.  Carbon Steel, Stainless Steel, Aluminum material, Cutting, Machining and cast processing, Complex weld and paint quality requirements Ability to read and comprehend Engineering drawings and specifications, preferred Conduct should cost analysis Proven experience in sophisticated negotiation concepts (e.g. eAuction) is beneficial Proficiency with software applications ( SAP , Excel, Word, etc.)

This position is based in Sacramento, CA. We offer a variety of health and wellness benefits to employees. The base salary range for this position in Sacramento, CA, is $119,900 - $162,000 high and the annual incentive target is 10% of the base salary. The salary may be higher or lower depending on the budget and the candidate's experience, knowledge, skills, and qualifications.
