**Responsibilities:**
Serves as the first point of contact between the SMH Emergency Department, prehospital providers and outside facilities for both adult and pediatric patients to determine needed resources, optimize throughput and maintain patient safety. Based on the information received, serves a vital role in distribution of information and activation of specific care teams including but not limited to Emergency Medicine, Trauma, Stroke, Pediatrics, etc.
JOB DUTIES AND RESPONSIBILITIES:
+ Collecting and documenting relevant information from prehospital providers - including ground and helicopter agencies, via radio, telephone phone and additional digital communications
+ Receive, document and prompt for complete information from receiving facilities about possible patient transfers to the ED during overnight hours. Works collaboratively with sending facility and team to determine resources needed for the patient and if immediate transfer is necessary to SMH ED overnight. Works with physicians working clinically and ED leadership when needed to decide if transfer is needed and to facilitate.
+ Collecting and documenting relevant information from transfer center, outside facilities and community-based providers via radio, telephone phone and additional digital communications
+ Utilizing collected information, assesses resource needs and initiates appropriate activation of specific care teams (Emergency Medicine, Trauma, Stroke, Pediatrics, Burn, MI, etc.)
+ Follows hospital incident management system protocols in both declared and resource dependent incidents and manages incoming calls during events. Utilize and maintain Monroe County Disaster Paging system, and will assist with maintaining communication systems
+ Receiving and documenting clinical information in EMR and receiving critical lab values and makes appropriate notification to clinical team members
+ Other duties as assigned.
QUALIFICATIONS:
+ High School diploma or equivalent and 2 years in Emergency Services, Pre-Hospital, or Clinical Emergency Medicine required;
+ Associate's degree or Bachelor's degree and experience in Emergency Services, Pre-Hospital, or Clinical Emergency Medicine, within the past five years preferred;
+ Or equivalent combination of education and experience;
+ Knowledge of basic Emergency Medicine clinical and operational protocols required;
+ Excellent communication skills, interpersonal skills and ability to manage multiple competing priorities with efficiency and professionalism required;
+ Basic competency with computers and additional digital interfaces required;
+ EMT-B or higher certification upon hire required or; LPN - Licensed Practical Nurse - State Licensure or higher nursing licensure upon hire required
