Communication Systems Technician II

WHAT YOU WILL DO:Deploy, configure, diagnose, and repair complex, mission-critical Land Mobile Radio equipment and systems (P25 Trunking Systems, MOTOTRBO, etc.) and related system components such as microwave, power, and network communications.Perform Preventative Maintenance and equipment upgrades.Participate in ongoing technical training to ensure knowledge of LMR technology developments. Assist in the specification of service, installation, and programming projects.  Demonstrate a willingness to learn and be mentored on new technologies in communications and equipment.Complete and report on technical activities. Serve in an on-call rotation to provide 24/7 technical support.     

 

WHAT YOU WILL BRING TO THE TEAM:Minimum two (2) years, an average of 5+ years of technical service and installation experience. Proven track record of providing hands-on operational, technical, and installation support/service to complex radio and other wireless communications systems/equipment (Two-Way Radios, Land Mobile Radios, P25 Trunking Systems, MOTOTRBO, etc.).Extensive knowledge/understanding of radio theory, RF propagation characteristics at various frequency bands, and communications systems.  Subscriber programming knowledge.  Strong communication skills with end users and third parties.  P25 and/or MotoTRBO experience is required.

 

YOUR ENVIRONMENT AND PHYSICAL REQUIREMENTS:

The physical environment requires the employee to work inside and outside in heat/cold, wet/humid, and dry/arid conditions. 

 

While performing the duties of this job, the employee is required to frequently stand, walk, sit; use hands to finger, handle, or feel objects, tools, or controls; reach with hands and arms; climb stairs; talk or hear; utilize personal protective equipment to prevent exposure to potentially hazardous materials, lift (overhead, waist level) from the floor, bending, frequently utilize near vision use for reading and computer use; be able to handle semi-frequent stressful conditions (cardiovascular), frequently work in outdoor weather conditions, frequently move equipment weighing up to 50 pounds, occasionally ascend/descend a ladder, operate a motor vehicle, frequently position self to maintain computers or other equipment as needed.


On-call for critical systems maintenance may be required. First shift hours Monday – Friday, with occasional 2nd or 3rd shift and weekends depending on project schedules.


TRAVEL REQUIREMENTS:

Will be working a hybrid work schedule and expected to travel within the Southern Maryland and Washington, DC area as necessary to support company and customer needs.
