The Portland Water Bureau’s Communications & Outreach Team seeks two qualified candidates to be our next Construction Project Outreach Assistants (Community Service Aide II)!
About the Position
Job Appointment: Casual
Work Schedule: Schedule will be approximately 20 hours per week, with scheduling flexibility. This role will work with their hiring manager to determine their schedule.
Note: This Community Service Aide (CSA II) position has a maximum of 1,400 hours in a calendar year.
Work Location: The Portland Building - 1120 SW 5th Ave., Portland, OR 97204

Position Summary
The Portland Water Bureau, part of the City of Portland's Public Works Service Area, is looking for two organized, self-directed assistants to support its communications team with tasks related to -
+ Construction project outreach.
+ Community events.
+ General communications projects.
The Communications and Outreach Assistant is an on-going position who will -
+ Perform writing and editing.
+ Provide administrative support for daily operations.
+ Provide support for public information campaigns.
+ Assist with routine website maintenance.
+ Assist with other tasks assigned by the Sr. Community Outreach Representative.
Critical projects these roles will support include, The Willamette River Crossing, Washington Park Reservoirs Replacement, Mt. Tabor Reservoirs, Bull Run Treatment Projects (filtration), and several critical water main (pipe) replacement projects designed to strengthen the region’s largest water system.
As Communications and Outreach Assistant ( CSA II), you will:
+ Draft content for communications plans, construction updates, web content, direct mail campaigns, social media and internal communications.
+ Provide outreach research support and participate in construction site assessments.
+ Use plain language to inform critical infrastructure projects.
+ Engage with the public at community events and meetings.
+ Assist with project coordination, including meeting scheduling and preparation, public inquiry management, and event staffing.
+ Perform administrative tasks independently, including tracking document review processes and translations.

To Qualify
The following minimum qualifications are required for this position:
+ Knowledge of and experience with professional writing, including the ability to use plain language to relay highly technical information to the average reader.
+ Knowledge of and experience with standard office programs and virtual engagement tools, especially Microsoft Office & Office 365 (Outlook, Word, Excel, Teams, and more) and Zoom.
+ Strong interpersonal communication skills, including the ability to communicate across different communication styles and cultural backgrounds.
+ Ability to multitask and prioritize work.
The following qualifications are preferred, but not required to apply:
+ Previous experience, either part-time or full-time, in customer service, communications, professional writing, community outreach, or related field.
+ Ability to use the Adobe Create Suite, specifically InDesign
