Job Description
The Office of the Bronx Borough President is seeking a dynamic and highly motivated Communications Associate to support our Communications Team. This is an exciting opportunity for someone with a passion for government, politics, and current events, who is eager to contribute to impactful communications and help drive public engagement. As a Communications Associate, you will gain invaluable experience working closely with senior staff, have the opportunity to contribute to high-profile projects, and help shape the public narrative around the priorities of the Borough President and Deputy Borough President.
You will play a key role in supporting media outreach, content creation, and public relations strategies. This position offers the chance to develop and execute media strategies that effectively communicate the Bronx Borough President’s policies, initiatives, and values to the public. In addition, you will have hands-on experience with press events, media outreach, and contributing to the creation of press communications that support the office’s mission.
Responsibilities:
- Creative Media Strategy Development: Develop and implement innovative digital PR strategies to engage the public through various platforms, including social media and traditional media channels.
- Press Inquiries & Talking Points: Field and respond to incoming reporter inquiries, draft talking points, and support the team in managing media interactions.
- Press Communications: Draft press releases, media advisories, condolence letters and other written materials on behalf of the Office of the Bronx Borough President. Ensure that all written communications align with the voice and priorities of the office.
- Event Support: Assist in staffing the Bronx Borough President and/or Deputy Borough President at press conferences, community events, and public appearances. Work closely with senior staff to ensure the smooth execution of press events.
- Public Recognition: Write citations and proclamations for community events, honoring individuals and organizations making a difference in the Bronx.
- Preparation for Public Appearances: Help prepare talking points, scripts, condolence letters and background materials for the Bronx Borough President and Deputy Borough President ahead of media interviews and public speaking engagements.
- Social Media Content Creation: Assist with the development of social media content, including posts, graphics, and videos, to promote key initiatives, events, and public policies. Ensure all content aligns with the Bronx Borough President’s voice and messaging.

Qualifications
Qualification Requirements
1. High school graduation or equivalent and three years of experience in community work or community centered activities in an area related to duties described above; or
2. Education and/or experience which is equivalent to "1" above.
