Hybrid classified roles can be onsite more than the set minimum based on employee preference. + Description + Benefits + Questions What Success Looks Like In This Job The Adams County Human Services (ACHS) Communications Coordinator will serve in building out a comprehensive communications program at the Human Services center. This position will research and analyze the organization’s current communications processes to identify specific needs/gaps to develop a fully functioning Communications team that can independently and effectively serve the communications needs of ACHS. This role is dedicated to implementing comprehensive communication strategies that align with Adams County’s mission and goals, with a strong emphasis on cultural responsiveness. Additionally, this position focuses on improving broad public awareness and perception of human services and may serve as the department’s spokesperson as needed. The incumbent will work with and across all ACHS programs, other County departments, and community partner organizations to assist with communication goals and objectives. This position is hybrid, with onsite work located at the Pete Mirelez Human Services Center in Westminster. Department Background The Adams County Human Services Department (ACHS) has four divisions including Children and Family Services, Economic Mobility, Performance, Operations, and Strategic Outcomes (POSO), and Administration. Our workforce includes 800+ staff members working across 9 Adams County locations. Examples of Duties for Success Strategic Communications: + Provide a strategic plan to develop and supervise the Communications team to include marketing, graphic design, public relations, and other communications services to connect ACHS with the Adams County community. + Ensure all communication strategies address the unique needs of LGBTQ+ individuals, people of color, people with disabilities, immigrants, and those experiencing poverty or homelessness. + This role will ensure internal and external communications, use plain language, follow trauma-informed practices, and involve collaboration with community members with lived experiences. + Manage high priority internal and external marketing campaigns. + Serve as the primary point of contact for the creation, proofreading, and editing of ACHS communications, ensuring clarity, consistency, and grammatical accuracy while being sensitive to trauma-informed messaging. + Understand the nuances of all program offerings and Communications needs to develop a strategy to increase public awareness and community engagement. + Direct and guide the work of ACHS professionals engaging in communications work throughout the department. + Create and implement internal communication strategies to support a healthy environment where team members are seen, heard, appreciated, and empowered to grow. + Develop and manage communication campaigns, including digital media strategies, to enhance engagement with both internal staff and the public, fostering a culture of transparency and trust. + Oversee the development, maintenance, and evaluation of ACHS-owned communications channels (e.g., social media platforms, websites, listservs, etc.) in partnership with the Adams County Communications department. + Analyze and report on the effectiveness of communication efforts, making recommendations for improvement based on data-driven insights. + Lead the coordination and execution of press conferences, events, and other public-facing activities, ensuring seamless delivery and consistent messaging. + Monitor media and social media channels, respond to inquiries, and proactively identify opportunities to highlight Human Services initiatives, promoting an understanding of our diverse populations. + Support crisis communication efforts and participate in emergency operations as needed. Collaboration: + Collaborate with the Human Services divisions and the Adams County Communications department to create high-quality, culturally responsive marketing materials, newsletters, brochures, and other communication tools, ensuring accessibility through translation services and adherence to reading-level guidelines. + Provide strategic communications counsel to department leadership on sensitive or political issues, ensuring affirming and non-stigmatizing messaging that reflects our commitment to cultural responsiveness. + Foster collaboration with cross-functional teams to ensure alignment with Adams County’s strategic priorities. + Maintains an effective working relationship with county, local, and state public information officers to coordinate aligned and consistent human services communications. Administrative: + Manages budgets for ACHS communications campaigns. + Identifies budgetary needs, resources, and opportunities. + Identifies, contracts with, oversees, and evaluates vendors to meet communications deliverables (e.g., graphic design, translation, interpretation, media buying, and technology solutions). + Perform related duties and responsibilities as assigned. Qualifications for Success + Strong knowledge of public relations, marketing, and communications best practices, with a demonstrated commitment to cultural responsiveness, and the ability to create innovative and effective campaigns. + Exceptional writing and editing skills with a keen eye for detail and adherence to messaging guidelines that prioritize inclusivity and accessibility. + Demonstrated skill in public relations and crisis communications. + Proficiency in managing social media platforms and crafting compelling digital content that resonates with diverse audiences. + Ability to handle sensitive issues with discretion and maintain a high level of professionalism. + Experience in event planning, coordination, and execution, including media relations and stakeholder engagement. + Strong collaboration and relationship-building skills, with the ability to work effectively across teams and with external partners. + Knowledge of graphic design principles and experience working with designers and multimedia professionals. + Demonstrated ability to compose effective press releases, facilitate on-camera media interviews, and develop talking points. More Qualifications for Success Experience: + Minimum of 4 years’ experience in communications, journalism, or public relations programs. + Demonstrated success in media relations, project management, and brand engagement is required. + Experience supporting communications within a government context is preferred. Education & Training: + Bachelor’s degree in Marketing, Communications, Journalism, Public Relations, or a closely related field is required. + A master’s degree is preferred and may substitute 2 years’ required professional experience. License or Certificate:None. Background Check:Must pass a criminal background check.
