Primary work location will be the Golden Rule Building in St. Paul** The Communications Director works closely with the Commissioner and at the direction of the Governor's administration to lead all communication and marketing management work streams at Commerce This senior leadership position provides ongoing strategic planning, implementation, and management of a comprehensive agency communication and media relations plan to engage key external and internal stakeholders, and the public, on the core components of Commerce's mission. The communications director will play a critical role in leading the Commerce Office of Communications to develop a creative and thoughtful strategy to promote the story of Commerce's work for the people of Minnesota, and ensure our work has maximum impact. **Minimum Qualifications** 5 years strategic leadership experience, supervisory, management experience _A bachelor's degree in the areas of Communications, Journalism or Public Relations or a closely related field can be substituted for one (1) year of experience. An advanced degree in Communications, Journalism or Public Relations or closely related field can be substituted for eighteen (18) months of experience._ Applicants who meet the above requirement will be further evaluated on: + Experience in communications and public relations. + Excellent written and verbal communication skills. + Demonstrated proficiency in media relations and interview skills. + Strong interpersonal skills and the ability to maintain positive relationships with a wide variety of people and backgrounds. + Demonstrated ability to think and act creatively to solve complex problems. + Ability to celebrate diversity and a strong commitment to a respectful and inclusive work environment **Preferred Qualifications** + A master's degree in communications, Journalism or Public Relations. + More than four (4) years of experience in communications and public relations. + Experience in government service. + Extensive knowledge of and experience working with in a regulatory environment. **Physical Requirements** Requires occasional moving of articles such as boxes, accounting records, laptop computer, and portable printer. **Additional Requirements** Job offer is contingent upon passing reference checks to verify job-related credentials, a criminal background check and drivers’ license check prior to appointment.
