Department Summary:

The Advanced Capabilities Department (N162) within the Integrated All-Domain Effects Division (N160) in MITRE’s Air and Space Forces Center focuses on developing and enabling capabilities to counter peer adversaries and enable the US to project power and operate within highly contested environments.  N162 is seeking a Communications Engineer who wants to deliver innovative solutions to unique national challenges.

Roles & Responsibilities:

Design, develop, and deploy SATCOM systems, including antennas and networks, to meet project requirements.Troubleshoot and maintain SATCOM equipment, networks, and signals to ensure optimal performance.Manage inventory of SATCOM equipment and laboratory assets, including cabling, antennas, and test equipment.Collaborate with satellite operators to maintain bandwidth, perform link budget analysis, and resolve signal issues.Conduct site surveys and assessments to determine SATCOM system requirements and feasibility.Develop and maintain documentation, including technical specifications, system diagrams, and operational procedures.Utilize and maintain a range of SATCOM test equipment, including spectrum analyzers, oscilloscopes, modems, switch matrices, attenuators, and amplifiers, to troubleshoot and optimize SATCOM system performance.Work closely with vendors to specify, procure, and integrate SATCOM network components, ensuring compliance with technical specifications and requirements.

Basic Qualifications:

Typically requires a Bachelor’s degree and a minimum of 2 years of related experience; or an advanced degree with relevant experience who can immediately contribute at this job step; or equivalent combination of related education and work experience.Familiarity with communications equipment, specifically RF communications.Ability to obtain and maintain a Top Secret/SCI clearance.

Preferred Qualifications:

5+ years of experience in SATCOM engineering, with a focus on system design, deployment, and maintenanceExperience with SATCOM protocols and standards, such as:DVB-S2TDM/TDMAIP over satelliteFamiliarity with SATCOM network management systems and software.Experience working with government agencies, military organizations, or commercial SATCOM providersStrong understanding of RF engineering principles, including antenna design, link budget analysis, and signal propagationExcellent problem-solving and analytical skills, with the ability to troubleshoot complex SATCOM system issues

Salary compensation range and midpoint:

$95,000 - $119,000 - $143,000 Annual
