Communications Manager

The Ho Center for Buddhist Studies at Stanford

The Ho Center for Buddhist Studies is the successor to the Stanford Center for Buddhist Studies. Originally founded in 1997, the Center was renamed in 2008. The Center is dedicated to promoting both the academic study and public understanding of the Buddhist tradition. It serves to coordinate, support, and develop Buddhist Studies through academic programs, collaborative research, scholarly communication, and public outreach.

Summary of position

The Communications Manager is responsible for producing and managing all communications for the Ho Center for Buddhist Studies Center at Stanford. The Communications Manager develops and manages content for a broad suite of outreach platforms including the Center website, email, event advertising, social media, and digital and print newsletters. This work includes managing and ensuring digital accessibility for the website, editing video captions and timings in YouTube Studio for recorded lectures, and writing post-event articles for the Center's newsletters. This position reports to the Executive Director of the Center.

This is a 100% FTE, continuing, exempt position. This position will be based on the Stanford campus and will be considered for an option of telecommuting (hybrid of working on-site and off-site), subject to operational need.

Core duties

Participate in development of communications deliverables for Buddhist Studies. Write summaries for newsletter after performances, film screenings, and lectures. Develop communications for mailing list, website, social media, and promotions. Produce newsletter layout and event posters using InDesign, event announcements through Mailchimp, resize photos using Photoshop, and other digital or print media as required. Work with vendors for newsletter production, signage, swag, large format posters, brochures, and other material for large events. Compile data, illustrations, photos, pictures, and articles for assignments. Maintain center website: manage and ensure digital accessibility for website; fix broken links; update webpages are necessary. Attend center events for posting on social media. Maintain center social media account (Instagram). Upload center events to university events website. Work on video captions and timings for recorded lectures for posting on Center YouTube channel. Maintain knowledge by attending webinars, conferences, networking etc. to remain at the forefront of industry standards, trends and technology. Work in collaboration with institutional communicators on media relations content and other areas.

Minimum Education and Experience Required

Bachelor’s degree and three years of relevant experience or combination of education and relevant experience.

Minimum Knowledge, Skills and Abilities Required

Excellent written and oral communication skills. Ability to work collaboratively with internal communications groups across campus. Demonstrated strong interpersonal skills. Capacity to synthesize materials and communicate information in a manner easily understood. Experience with managing projects to specifications and to meet expected deadlines. Ability to perform detailed work with high level of accuracy and attention to detail.

The expected pay range for this position is $93,678 to $108,979 per annum/hour.
