The Communications Manager for AIG is an integral member of the External Communications team. This colleague is responsible for driving media relations and supporting issues management and public relations activity on behalf of the company. This role reports to the Director, External Communications and consults across the global marketing, brand, and business teams. The successful candidate will have the ability to understand the role of media relations within the wider communications mix, and drive successful results aligned to business objectives.
Key Responsibilities:
Remain acutely attuned to news media coverage and trends globally and look one step ahead for scenario planning on proactive and reactive measures.
Be able to distill complex messaging into a compelling story or media pitch.
Collaborate with internal and external stakeholders to help build and execute communications plans.
Craft compelling written messages including talking points, Q&As, scripts, briefs and other related content that will resonate across AIG’s global key stakeholders and external audiences.
Identify and build relationships with external stakeholders including, media, industry insurance organizations, vendor partners, and others as needed.
Oversee measurement and monitoring of media and recommend how to evolve communications strategies based on data and insights.
Attend and manage media on-site at industry events.
Amplify positive media coverage and AIG-related storytelling by partnering with teams across AIG’s owned digital channels (intranet, social media, AIG.com).
Remain up to date with emerging PR and media platforms and help inform the Communications team of best practices.
Qualifications:
3+ years of global communications experience. (Experience in the financial services or insurance sectors is a plus).
Experience working with trade, top-tier, broadcast and niche media.
Excellent project management skills with a high degree of focus on the details.
Ability to manage multiple priorities and excel in a fast-paced, collaborative environment.
A team player who is highly collaborative and willing to help where needed across teams and projects.
Exceptional writing and editing skills.
Strong business acumen and financial literacy.
Demonstrates excellent judgement and has an ownership mentality.
Calm under pressure and solution focused when unforeseen circumstances arise.
