The EHS team of safety, health, and environmental professionals is focused on helping Texas A&M University to fulfill its mission of “providing the highest quality undergraduate and graduate programs” and “developing new understandings through research and creativity.” Environmental Health and Safety supports and enriches Texas A&M University by providing quality programs and services that instill safety, health, and environmental stewardship. What we want The Communications Manager is responsible for managing communications internally and externally, reviewing and editing written materials, preparing presentations, and ensuring quality, clarity and brand compliance in communications. This position serves as a central coordination point for communications needs for assigned areas within Operations, including web and digital strategy, videography and photography projects, social media and other initiatives related to communications, helping to ensure a consistent voice and compliance with Texas A&M University requirements. Assigned areas within Operations Includes the Chief Operations Officer, University Police, Environmental Health & Safety, and Emergency Management. Position Details: + This position supports multiple units within the Division of Operations. + These units are located at multiple facilities on campus and may require the Communications Manager to spend time with each unit regularly. + This position is security sensitive + This position requires compliance with state and federal laws/codes and Texas A&M University System/TAMU policies, regulations, rules and procedures + All tasks and job responsibilities must be performed safely without injury to self or others in compliance with System and University safety requirements Required Education + A Bachelor’s degree in Journalism, Communications, Public Relations, Marketing or related field, or equivalent combination of education and experience. + Five years of experience with communications-related work (i.e., Internal Communications, Marketing, Communications, Public relations or related functional work), including two years of related supervisory experience. Preferred Qualifications + Expertise and experience in providing advice and counsel to senior management on communications initiatives. + Familiarity with website content management systems, email platforms, social media channels and accessibility standards for digitally distributed communications. Knowledge, Skills, and Abilities + Effective verbal and written communication skills. + Strong interpersonal and organizational skills. + Strong relationship builder and influencer who is comfortable working with leaders at all levels. + Proven track record for superb written and oral communications; excellent proofreading and editing skills; a keen attention to detail; and understanding of technical writing for documentation and manual development. + Enthusiasm and interest in existing and emerging communications channels. + Ability to work in a fast-paced environment and meet tight deadlines; ability to prioritize and manage a variety of projects and tasks simultaneously. + Creative thinker who embraces and drives change. + Must be a professional, extremely organized, enthusiastic, and flexible team player who can work independently. + Ability to multi-task and work cooperatively with others. Essential Duties and Tasks -Communications and Content Development + Coordinate communications internally and externally and support creation and coordination of campus wide, division wide, and external communications, including but not limited to forward-facing websites, newsletters, and social media channels. + Serves as the central coordination point for website content updates, print and digital projects, presentations, and more. + Review and edit written materials, support presentation preparation, and generate content for internal newsletters, executive and technical communications, and other outlets as appropriate. + Support message development to communicate priorities and impacts for internal and external constituents, stakeholders, employees, etc. + Edit and review all external communications to ensure quality, clarity, and brand compliance, as appropriate. + Create, develop, and implement a strategic marketing and communications plan in coordination with assigned areas. -Budget Preparation and Management + Develop communications plans and coordinate with the Division of Marketing and Communications, as appropriate, to distribute information to relative audiences through approved channels. + May supervise support staff and serve as liaison when coordinating with external vendors.
