About this Position:
This position functions as a Deputy Communications Director for the Michigan Department of Agriculture and Rural Development. This position serves as a department manager responsible for contacting media, stakeholder groups, Governor’s office, and the general public. This position is also responsible for managing the communications from the bureau representatives. It is responsible for various communication efforts including, but not limited to, assisting the department’s Communications Director, developing news releases, talking points for the MDARD Director, internal communication development and management, metrics tracking and other informational pieces.
This position acts as a resource for staff, handles strategic communications and external and internal messaging, and develops relationships with the media. It is responsible for highly complex and specialized communication, marketing, and media duties and assignments, handles strategic communications, and develops relationships with the media.

Required Education and Experience
Education
Possession of a bachelor's degree in advertising, broadcasting, communications, communications arts, English, journalism, or telecommunications.
Experience
Four years of professional experience in preparing and disseminating informational and promotional materials, including two years equivalent to a Promotional Agent P11 or Communications Representative P11, or one year equivalent to a Promotional Agent 12 or Communications Representative 12.

Paid Parental Leave:Eligible employees can take 12 weeks of paid leaveimmediately after a birth or adoption to allow needed time together at home with a new child.
Paid Holidays:Eligible employees receive 13 or 14 paid holidays each year including New Year’s Eve and Day, Martin Luther King Jr. Day, Presidents’ Day, Memorial Day, Juneteenth, the Fourth of July, Labor Day, Election Day, Veterans Day, Thanksgiving, Thanksgiving Friday, Christmas Eve and Day.
