The Communications Specialist 1 will schedule, coordinate and plan special events and tradeshows for the agency. Attend and provide support for the commissioner at public events. Administer agency communication activities to assist with the development, implementation and analysis of agency communication programs to include community outreach and public engagement. Assist with planning and implementation of agency’s strategic plan and priorities including program evaluation and program guidelines. The incumbent will serve as Digital Accessibility Coordinator while adhering to section 508 requirements as set forth by the Federal Government and to meet the state of Minnesota’s technology accessibility standard.
The incumbent is responsible for resolving or coordinating the resolution of a variety of problems involving the issues and details related to meetings and events . The position must be very creative in forming partnerships to work cooperatively on projects.
_This position is located in Eveleth, MN with the eligibility for a hybrid telework schedule, which is subject_ _to change with notice. If approved for telework, the employee would be required to complete a telework agreement._
_Upon completion of a successful probationary period, the incumbent may be eligible to work a_ _minimum of three (3) days per week in office on a regular basis or as needed by their supervisor._
**Minimum Qualifications**
+ One (1) year of related professional experience in marketing, marketing/communications or public relations role.
+ Ability to effectively communicate verbally and in writing.
+ Excellent interpersonal skills, including the ability to build and maintain relationships with agency leaders, board members, other teams, employees of the organization, and partners.
+ Effective customer service/human relations skills sufficient to interact with others in a professional, respectful, and efficient manner.
+ Strong organizational and planning skills in order to manage projects, identify priorities, and meet timelines with little supervision.
+ Experience working with Word, Excel, PowerPoint, Adobe.
+ Experience working with a diverse clientele including the commitment to equity and inclusion in the learning and work environment.
+ Valid MN Driver's License.
**Preferred Qualifications**
+ Experience working with the State of Minnesota.
+ Experience in media relations, including online technology.
+ Knowledge of Associated Press style and plain language principles.
+ Database management skills sufficient to develop and correctly enter information in a database and process ad-hoc queries and develop reports for management use.

+ Ability to transport oneself to external meetings or obligations.
