This individual will be responsible for helping to shape and carry out SCO's communications mandate, which includes a focus on building brand awareness among our varied audiences, with particular emphasis and experience in social media and digital marketing. The Communications Specialist will assist in the implementation of an integrated marketing communications plan to position SCO as the leading provider of services for New Yorkers in need – children, youth, families and adults – and help to raise the organization’s profile.
Working as part of a team, he or she is responsible for the dissemination of agency messages, internal and external communications, social media, video, photographs, enewsletters, website, SCO materials, and other communications channels. The candidate will research, develop, and post social media content, ensuring accuracy; maintain a timely, vibrant and consistent presence for SCO; and make connections between SCO and its external partners. He or she will help to 'tell our story' to our constituents including, employees, donors, government, media, and the public who will increasingly choose to become SCO clients.

SPECIFIC RESPONSIBILITIES
Work closely with staff from SCO programs and business units to generate enthusiasm about our work, increase awareness among our target audience, and leverage SCO's brand assets to drive our messaging.
Carry out a digital marketing strategy to grow and enhance SCO's audience on social media and digital platforms. Must be well versed in best practices of social media and extend SCO's presence effectively through Facebook, Twitter, LinkedIn, Instagram and other existing and emerging forums. Create original text, images, and video content, manage posts, and develop/maintain our social media calendar. Communicate with followers, respond to comments/inquiries/reviews, and generate reports/insights of user engagement and campaign effectiveness.
Write and edit materials, including press releases, annual report, website, presentations, brochures, etc. with a keen eye for detail and accuracy.
Proactive outreach to SCO program staff to gather information regarding new initiatives, developments, accomplishments, etc., and help to determine how to best publicize the information internally and externally.
Work with the Development department to ensure timely and well-executed materials, such as invitations, website/social media support for events, marketing materials, appeals, etc.
Help to plan and execute public events designed to elevate SCO's name recognition.
Qualifications - External
QUALIFICATIONS
Between three and five years of full-time experience in the communications/marketing field, with responsibilities for writing, editing, developing campaigns and ideas, managing social media/websites, and graphic design. Prior experience in social media posting and content strategy required.
Demonstrated writing ability (writing samples required). Must be able to write for varied audiences.
Experience with WordPress, website content management, and managing/reporting on social media platforms.
Experience with Google Ads, Google Analytics, and Sprout Social
Proficiency in desktop publishing, Photoshop and InDesign.
Video editing a plus.
EDUCATION: Bachelor’s degree in communications, marketing, journalism, writing or similar concentration.
SPECIAL SKILLS: Excellent organizational, written and verbal communication skills. Detail orientated with strong interpersonal skills. Ability to multi-task and work independently in addition to working in collaboration with Communications team. Strong computer skills including but not limited to proficiency in Microsoft Office, PowerPoint, Publisher, and InDesign. Must thrive in a dynamic, ever-changing environment.
