Job Description
The Communications Specialist is responsible for executing communications strategies and supporting department projects, events, and initiatives that promote NANA’s mission and values. This role involves creating high-quality content, managing communications data, supporting campaigns, and fostering strong relationships to effectively convey NANA’s message to internal and external audiences.
Responsibilities
Project Management: Develops and monitors schedules for assigned communications projects, ensuring timely and organized completion.
Data Management: Compiles, organizes, and processes various types of communications data for use in reports and planning.
Strategic Support : Assists in the creation and implementation of communication strategies and tactics to support company goals.
Content Creation: Drafts divers, well-written content including companywide communications, articles, stories and scripts for internal and external audiences.
Campaign and Event Support: Supports NANA’s marketing and communications strategies, including campaigns and events, from planning and promotion to execution and follow-up.
Content Management System: Updates and maintains content on NANA’s website, intranets, and other digital platforms using a content management system.
Internal Communications: Coordinate and enhance internal communication efforts to keep employees informed, engaged, and aligned with company objectives. Prepare announcements, newsletters, and updates tailored for internal distribution.
Relationship Building: Builds and maintains positive relationships with colleagues, partners, and stakeholders to effectively deliver NANA’s message and coordinate events.
Culturally Appropriate Communication: Demonstrates understanding and respect for culturally appropriate communications and follows the Iñupiat Iḷitqusiat in all work relationships, products, and events.
Additional Duties: Performs other duties as required to contribute to the department's and company’s success.
Qualifications
Education: High school diploma or GED equivalent; bachelor’s degree in communications, marketing, journalism, design, or a related field is preferred.
Experience: Three years of experience in marketing, communications, public relations, or an agency setting.
Skills: Excellent oral and written communication skills; advanced proficiency in MS Word, Excel, PowerPoint, and Outlook; experience with social media platforms.
Competencies: Strong organizational and interpersonal communication skills, proven ability to work within timelines, and ability to work independently on assigned tasks.
Other: Valid driver’s license with an acceptable driving record to be eligible under NANA’s vehicle insurance policy.
Working Conditions and Physical Requirements
Weather: Indoors - environmentally controlled; requires most or all work to be done inside.
Noise level: The noise level in the work environment is usually that of a standard office atmosphere.
Description of environment: Office building with standard office environment.
Physical requirements: Employee is required to occasionally lift and/or move up to 25 lbs. Frequently required to sit, stand, walk, use hands/fingers to handle or feel, climb, stoop, kneel, crouch or crawl, talk/hear, see, taste/smell, and carry weight/lift.
Travel: This role may require occasional travel, and work during nights, weekends, or holidays as needed to support company events and activities. Employee may travel throughout Alaska to remote locations and may be required to use alternative modes of transportation, including but not limited to snow machines, boats, small airplanes, and ATVs. Travel to and from the worksite will be provided and arranged by NANA.
