Job Description General Description The LaGuardia Community College (LaGCC) ACCES Pre-Employment Transition Services Program (Pre-ETS) assists students with disabilities in successfully transitioning from postsecondary education to meaningful employment opportunities. Under the direct supervision of the Principal Investigator and Program Manager, the ACCES Communications Specialist is responsible for overseeing website information and content for the ACCES Pre-ETS Program. The Communications Specialist works closely with the College’s Information Technology Department and ACCES Pre-ETS Program, who research and produce material (video, photos, and text) for the website. The Communications Specialist serves as an advisor aiding with web content to effectively provide information to their target audiences and plays a leadership role in the development of the programs communications to ensure user-centricity, intuitive navigation, high functionality, and consistency. This is a grant-funded, hybrid position through the Research Foundation of CUNY. Appointments are subject to availability of funding and satisfactory performance. About LaGuardia Community College Founded in 1971 in Long Island City, Queens, LaGuardia Community College is one of seven community colleges of the City University of New York/CUNY. LaGuardia offers more than sixty associate degree and certificate programs, as well as dozens of workforce training, ESOL, GED, and pre-college programs. In 2023, LaGuardia served approximately 25,000 students. More than one-third of our degree-seeking students were born outside of the United States, coming to LaGuardia from 136 countries and speaking forty-three heritage languages. More than half are first-generation college students. Sixty-nine percent live in Queens; the rest live in Brooklyn and beyond. Approximately two-thirds of our degree students receive financial aid. Other Duties + Coordinate with the Communications team to ensure updates and changes are made to the ACCES Pre-ETS website (content, style, and appearance). + Work with the Communications team to identify necessary updates and improvements for the ACCES Pre-ETS website, including academic and administrative information, event calendars, and news content, and communicate these changes for implementation. + Training and advising ACCES Pre-ETS personnel in maintaining respective sections of the website. + Improving navigation of ACCES Pre-ETS website by using Web content management systems to analyze site statistics as well as conducting usability testing with program audiences. + Work with the Marketing team for photographs and video shoots and guidance in advertising program events with digital banners. + Preparing photographs and other visual content for the ACCES Pre-ETS website. + Manage marketing and promotional efforts that appear on social media platforms and on-campus monitors. + Work with IT and the team to ensure that student privacy is protected, and that the department's data collection, storage, and reporting processes align with college policies around the protection of student data and FERPA regulations. + Other duties as assigned. Qualifications + Associate’s degree or equivalent experience in a related field. + Basic knowledge of graphic design software such as Adobe Photoshop, Adobe Illustrator, Adobe InDesign, and Canva. + Ability to interpret feedback from program audiences and implement necessary changes. + Strong organizational skills for managing multiple tasks related to website maintenance, content updates, and promotional efforts. + Ability to create, compose, and edit written materials. + Familiarity with creating engaging posts and tracking social media performance metrics. + Experience managing social media platforms (e.g., Facebook, Instagram, Twitter) for marketing or promotional purposes. + Experience in optimizing images for web use. + Strong verbal and written communication skills to coordinate with the Communications team and other departments. + Ability to write clearly and concisely for various audiences, including students, faculty, and staff.
