Communications Specialist (PT)

The University of Pittsburgh’s Office of Engagement and Community Affairs (ECA) is seeking a creative and innovative part-time (15 hours per week) Communications Specialist to support Pitt’s Neighborhood Commitments, and particularly the Greater Hazelwood Neighborhood Commitment. This role reports to the Associate Director of Communications and Strategic Project Management and will also work closely with the Director of the Greater Hazelwood Neighborhood Commitment.

Required Qualifications:

The successful candidate should possess strong writing and copyediting skills, graphic design experience with Adobe Creative Cloud applications and Canva, social media familiarity, knowledge and comfort with technology, task and content management, time management, and a high attention to detail.

Preferred Qualifications:

Familiarity with Sprout Social, Campaign Monitor, Drupal or other content management systems, and University brand and writing guidelines is preferred. Knowledge of the social, political, and economic dynamics of Pittsburgh, and specifically those of Greater Hazelwood, Homewood, and the Hill District, is preferred.

Additional Role Details:

This position is hybrid, with the incumbent expected to spend in-person time in Greater Hazelwood, ECA’s primary office in Oakland, and remotely. The incumbent may also be expected to work from the Community Engagement Centers in Homewood and the Hill District on occasion. Reliable transportation is preferred

The part-time Communications Specialist will primarily support the Greater Hazelwood Neighborhood Commitment team as they work to engage the community and plan for the forthcoming Community Engagement Center in Greater Hazelwood. This support will occur through a variety of communications channels and techniques aimed at engaging and informing both internal and external audiences, including:

- Creating and implementing a robust communications strategy, in collaboration with the Associate Director of Communications and Strategic Project Management.

- Understanding and utilizing the best mediums and channels to reach and engage with a variety of audiences with differing backgrounds, including Greater Hazelwood community residents, members of the University community, community partners, collaborators, funders, and more.

- Developing original written and designed content (via Adobe Creative Cloud applications and Canva), including fliers, booklets, brochures, advertisements, and more.

- - Managing and distributing an e-newsletter (via Campaign Monitor) and events calendar.

- Monitoring the effectiveness of various campaigns and outreach efforts and suggesting opportunities for improvement.

In addition to the Greater Hazelwood Neighborhood Commitment, the part-time Communications Specialist will also provide communications support for Pitt’s Community Engagement Centers in Homewood and the Hill District, including monthly calendar management, website updates, and social media support, etc.
