SUMMARY:

 


We are seeking a highly motivated and detail-oriented Communications Support Specialist to support the National Security Innovation Network (NSIN)’s across all programs, activities and functions. NSIN is an organization dedicated to fostering innovation and collaboration within the national security community.  As a Communications Specialist, you will play a crucial role in assisting with the planning, coordination, and execution of various Communications actions and strategies. Your analytical skills, attention to detail, and ability to work in a fast-paced environment will contribute to the success of NSIN's mission.

 


ESSENTIAL DUTIES AND RESPONSIBILITIES:

 

 

 

The Communications Support Specialist will assist in managing all internal and external communication and will work closely with the Deputy Director of Communications to fulfil the critical innovation mission of our DOD customer.  The key responsibilities of the position will be (non-exhaustive, and customizable by area of focus):

 

Supporting existing communications operations workflows as needed.Assisting with development of effective customer communication tactics and strategies.Support internal communications (memos, newsletters etc.).Administer and manage on-line and in person event registration. Provide in person support at several locations around the country.Work independently or as part of larger team when necessary to coordinate event requirements with local teams that may include: catering/food and beverage, equipment, technical requirements, logistics, security, parking, set-up/floor plan, VIP/guest services, decorations, entertainment, ancillary programs, speakers, risk assessment and management, and other support crew and event-related costs.Provide content for invitations, programs, scripts, briefings, online registration, biographical information, calendars, letters, and oversee invitation mailings, and RSVPs.Manage and maintain event information and maintenance in attendee database Establish and maintain positive working relationships with internal and external parties.When necessary, provide advanced administration and office support, which includes screening and handling telephone and electronic communications, greeting and directing visitors, making travel arrangements, maintaining files, fiscal tasks, keeping a running inventory of materials that need to be ordered and attend to administrative and managerial issues and inquiries as they arise.Collaborating with other members of the Communications team and across NSIN to ensure timely production of deliverables.Assisting in communication of strategies or messages from senior leadership.

A working knowledge of the venture, academic, and defense ecosystems.The ability and interest to maintain awareness of new media technology, techniques, and strategies such as social networks, and integrate them into communication plans.A sense of urgency while maintaining an exceptional service attitude focusing on professionalism and responsibility.The ability to manage media relations and maximize media opportunities.Excellent writing skills and a strong understanding of SEO-driven content.Working knowledge of content management systems, HTML coding, and digital graphics production.An eagerness to serve as a strategic thought partner of the Government’s leadership, shaping the voice and messaging for the organization based on his/her vision.An innate need for teamwork, and the desire to support and highlight the great work being done across the organization.The willingness and aptitude to operate successfully as part of a dispersed team.

The Communications Support Specialist will ideally be based at the customer’s HQ in Arlington, VA but remote options are available on a case-by-case basis.


The role will be required to support the customer’s personnel throughout the country occasionally.

QUALIFICATIONS:

 


Experience, Education, Skills and Abilities:

 

Bachelor’s degree in communications, public relations, business, or related field of study.5+ years of progressive experience in a related field.Subject matter expertise on one or multiple support functions (writing, graphic design, web design, content production, copywriting, editing digital media, communications strategies, etc.).Exceptional verbal, written, and presentation skills.Ability to work effectively both independently and as part of a team.Experience using multiple office and Comms production software platforms for a variety of tasks.Knowledge of file management, transcription, and other administrative procedures.Solid understanding of project management principles and activities.Ability to work on tight deadlines.

Near visual acuity to review written documentation, ability to hear and understand speech at normal room levels and on the telephone; manual dexterity to operate a telephone and keyboard; lift horizontally and vertically.

Job is performed in an office setting with exposure to computer screens and requires extensive use of a computer, keyboard, mouse and multi-line telephone system. The noise level in the work environment is usually moderate.
