Communications Technician

The Role

Communication Technician for long term and ongoing full-time FIFO opportunities from Perth.

We have a 5-year contract for ongoing maintenance and shutdown works servicing Fortescue Metals Group (FMG) mine, rail, and port locations throughout the Pilbara and Port Hedland region.

 Key Responsibilities:

Understand specifications of work areas to determine positioning and connections for equipment to be installed Install multiple and single line fibre optic cable for FMG, RIO Tinto projects and BHP Splice both multi-mode and single-mode fibre optic cables Test fibre optic lines after installation to confirm optimal operation, using OTDR and point-to-point tester Install internal structure cabling for data and equipment for the computer network Splice fibre optic telecommunication cables installed in underground pipe trenches and overhead systems Locate faults on fibre optic cables and structured cabling, and solve the faults using OTDR and data cable testers

The successful applicant will ideally have:

‘WA’ Electrical Workers License CPR/LVR Certificate (within 12 months) First Aid Certificate (within 3 years) Working Safely at Heights and Confined Space (within 2 years) Construction induction card (White or Blue card) Hold a valid driving license Ability to pass site medical testing requirements Previous experience in a similar role Strong communication and people skills Strong computer and systems skills and knowledge
