SUMMARY OF POSITION
We are seeking competent Community Assistants to support the daily operation of the residence hall offices during the Fall 2024 – Spring 2025 academic year. Based on needs and talents, this position will assist with graphic design, social media influence, office coverage, answering of questions from students and parents, and in building deliveries.
The ideal candidate will be a hard-working paraprofessional able to undertake a variety of tasks, is detail-oriented, creative, will use discretion, exude confidence in making decisions, and work well under pressure. The qualified candidate will be able to prioritize their work and will rise to the challenge of incorporating new and effective strategies to achieve the best results.
The Residential Education Community Assistant (CA) position at The New School is a position for the duration of the academic year beginning Monday, October 28, 2024 and ending Friday, May 16, 2025. Community Assistants can opt in to work during Winter Break and is preferred. Community Assistants incoming for the academic year will need to take part in CA Training as scheduled by your supervisor. The CA will work 10 to 15 office hours per week and will be compensated with $16.00 an hour starting Monday, October 28th. The CA will be required to participate in monthly meetings and necessary CA training sessions as assigned.

OFFICE RESPONSIBILITIES
● Staff the residential office during your scheduled shift and maintain a visually appealing, clean, and sanitized work area.● Complete paperwork (logs, reports, etc) and other administrative tasks neatly, legibly, and thoroughly● Maintain confidentiality in all aspects of the position● Contact Hall Staff regarding emergencies and as necessary● Assist with office coverage as needed which includes but is not limited to answering questions, filing, assisting with lockouts, etc.● Check and respond to building emails and voicemails.● Provide excellent customer service in all interactions with residence hall occupants.● Assist with in-hall food delivery pick-up and door delivery when requested.● Conduct tours of the residence hall during your designated shift if requested. Please note, that you may be asked to show your room during tours, and advance notice will be given to students when at all possible.● General ResHall duties as assigned including but not limited to: Lockouts Keycard encoding Answering building emails Assisting professional staff with dorm initiatives


Work ModeOn-Campus Position – Employees in this position are expected to work on-campus during regularly scheduled work hours due to the nature of the work being that which is not feasible, or not in the best interest of the organization, to be performed remotely.
Compensation$16h

Minimum Qualifications: ● Ability to lift packages that weigh at least 20 pounds.● Excellent customer service skills● Clear communication skills: listening, verbal & written skills etc.● Dexterity, efficiency, and self-motivation to sort large volumes of mail.● Good organizational skills, reliable, dependable, and attentive to details

Preferred Qualifications: ● Graphic design experience or courses
● Ability to use computer software including Google and Microsoft Suite.
● Experience with Adobe Creative Suites (PhotoShop, InDesign and Illustrator), Email (Google Suite, Microsoft Outlook, and Internet.
