Works on all aspects of promoting and advocating an ASCMV Community Cat Program (CCP) in Las Cruces a nd all of Dona Ana County, which involves spaying/neutering, vaccinating, ear-tipping and returning community cats brought into the center to the location based on the address where the cat was captured/found. Identif ies caregivers and cats in the area during such returns and arrang es for trap, neuter and release ( TNR ) of the whole colony; respond s to nuisance complaints and offer s the public advice and deterrents to solve issues with community cats; and work s with the community to conduct TNR in other colony areas as identified by the public. Environmental Factors Animal shelter environment, exposure to a variety of domestic and feral/stray animals, animal body fluids, wastes and infectious materials and surgical instruments; outdoor and or inclement weather conditions, may be exposed to hostile or abusive members of the public. Physical Factors Moderate to heavy lifting of fifty (50) pounds or more; bending, stooping, kneeling, crawling; sitting or standing for prolonged periods of time; operating various equipment. Work Situation Factors Position involves competing demands, performing multiple tasks, working to deadlines, occasional work beyond normal business hours to include holidays, weekends, late and early hours or split sheets as needed , and responding to customer issues. Regular attendance is an essential function of this job to ensure continuity of services. Position is subject to drug testing in accordance with applicable State and Federal regulations and ASCMV policies. Duties and Responsibilities + Works to builds strong center relationships with the City of Las Cruces, Dona Ana County, animal welfare and other organizations, and the public for success of the program . + Identif ies and p rioritize s the n eeds for Community Cat Program by using various means such as data collection; working with center staff, other organizations and the public; communicate with others to address and resolve issues regarding TNR . + Maintain s relationship s with clinics providing surgeries for CCP cats including transporting cats to and from clinics; scheduling surgery appointments; ensur ing policies and procedures are followed by all ASCMV and clinic staff . + Recruit s and s upport s t rappers w orking with the p rogra m; provides training; ensur es supplies needed are provided; maintain s accurate records; and conducts field work as n eeded. + Manage s s upplies by keeping all necessary equipment on hand properly identified and in working order; maintain s sterilization of equipment after each use; keeping cases updated, including colony and caregiver information . + Manage s d ata by entering all gathered data accurately and in a timely manner into a database program; provi des reports monthly, yearly and as needed to reflect all Community Cat Program efforts; work s with the ASCMV Volunteer Program to utilize volunteers to support the program . + Participates in fieldwork , set s up traps in different locations throughout Dona Ana County, includ es night work as needed; pic ks up cats from partner clinics and return s them to their colony, caregivers or local TNR groups; distribute s information to neighborhoods where program cats are returned; contact s clients for appointments and enter s all information needed into database timely and accurately . Minimum Qualifications High school or equivalent PLUS a minimum of one (1) year experience in the general handling of cats . A combination of education, experience, and training may be applied in accordance with Animal Service Center of the Mesilla Valley (ASCMV) policy. Licenses/Certification(s) Valid driver’s license is required. If applicable, position requires an acceptable driving record in accordance with ASCMV. Bilingual skills (English/Spanish) are desirable. Additional technical certifications and training may be required for some incumbents in this job class. Knowledge, Skills, and Abilities Knowledge of: cat health issues , behavior, handling and care; principles, practices, techniques, activities, rules, and regulations related to the operations and functions of the position and services provided; current principles of record keeping and records management; principles and practices of effective research methods and data analysis, customer service , and problem resolution techniques; occupational and environmental safety and health hazards, and safety practices; safe and effective use and maintenance of related tools , materials, and equipment; current methods and standards for preparing effective business correspondence; correct English usage, grammar, composition, spelling, punctuation and vocabulary; business and personal computers and related software applications; Animal Service Center of the Mesilla Valley operations, policies , and procedures to effectively perform the required functions and duties of the position.
