Community Development Manager

The University of Virginia’s College at Wise invite applicants for a full-time Community Development Manager. The Community Development Manager works strategically with communities to co-create solutions which build capacity within their leadership teams; assesses needs for leadership and skill development, and engages students from UVA Wise in the process.

Job Duties:

Outreach and engagement with communities to promote and facilitate community capacity building.Conducting needs assessments with communities in order to customize an approach for capacity building or identify alternate plans for addressing their needs.Works with the community to organize community development teams where none exist or revitalize existing community groups as needed.Complete community leadership team skill and knowledge assessment in order to tailor a leadership development approach.Facilitate community team conversations to identify meaningful and visible projects on which they can hone their skill development.Provide project management support to communities as they implement their projects.Responsible for incorporating entrepreneurship and business supports training into community support training.Assist communities in assessing the ecosystem they provide to assist small businesses and entrepreneurs.Manage various program and UVA Wise organizational budgets, completing monthly budget reconciliations.Work closely with regional and state stakeholders such as DHCD, VTC, Friends of SWVA, People INC., VCC, and Small Business development centers; among others.Contribute to the design and delivery of annual coaching summits, emerging leadership programs, and other programs that support community capacity building. Implement effective means of engaging students in community development projects and programs which align with service learning objectives at the college.Apply for and manage grants which include application and budget development, project management, monitoring, and reporting.Capturing and communicating stories resulting from capacity building and entrepreneurship activities through multimedia channels to include social media, websites, and annual reports.Assists with other duties as assigned overall, including as identified through the office’s work with various communities in the UVA Wise region.

Qualifications:

Experience in the field and with community development preferred; but not required.

Bachelor’s degree in related field preferred; but not required.
