Community Education Assistant CL3
Position is available to employees of the Associated C.O.L.T. Staff of the University of Maine and University of Maine at Machias from 10/16/2024 through 10/23/2024 and open to additional internal applicants thereafter. The 4-H Community Education Assistant CL3 with the University of Maine Cooperative Extension plays a crucial role in managing and supporting 4-H volunteers, members, and families in Penobscot County. This position is responsible for enhancing and promoting the 4-H Youth Development program, focusing on volunteer management, conflict resolution, and fostering positive youth development. By facilitating engaging educational activities and leadership opportunities, the role ensures that participants build essential life skills for future success while maintaining a collaborative and supportive environment. Full-time, regular, 40 hours per week, 5 days per week. Normal daily work hours are Monday – Friday, 8:00 a.m. to 4:30 p.m. This position pays $19.59/hour, or applicable transfer rate in accordance with the ACSUM collective bargaining agreement. Essential Duties and Responsibilities: + Provides primary support and works closely with the 4-H Clubs in Penobscot County. + Recruits and supports 4-H Youth and 4-H Volunteers in Penobscot County. + Provides orientation and training for 4-H volunteers and supports them in carrying out the educational mission of the 4-H positive youth development program. + Facilitate open communication, address concerns promptly, and implement effective solutions to ensure a positive and collaborative environment among 4-H volunteers, members, and families. + Works closely with the Administrative Specialist in Penobscot County to support the 4-H clubs in Penobscot County which includes county 4-H events and programs. + Organizes, plans, and attends county 4-H events in collaboration with 4-H Volunteers. + Participates in and provides leadership and guidance to the Penobscot 4-H Leaders Association meetings and activities. + Collaborate with the 4-H staff that work out of the Lafayette and Rawcliffe 4-H Science and Engineering Learning Center in Orono in support of 4-H programming in Penobscot County. + Facilitates educational 4-H programs using established curriculum. + Offers research-based youth development programs to youth in Penobscot County. + Designs and develops instructional materials. + Provide 4-H support to the Bangor State Fair and if needed support to the Piscataquis Valley Fair in support of Penobscot County 4-H members. + Assists with evaluating the impact of 4-H events, programs, and activities. + Assists with the preparation and management of program budgets. + Adheres to civil rights requirements and tracks and reports civil rights activities. + Promotes other Extension programming when appropriate. + Regularly participates in local Extension staff meetings. + Develops and maintains professional relationships that reflect courtesy, civility, and mutual respect. + Builds productive relationships with internal and external constituencies. + Utilizes coaching and mentoring methods that provide an environment that is anticipatory, supportive, and encourages constructive feedback on performance. + Commits to organizational improvement by identifying opportunities to improve and recommending possible alternatives. + Performs other reasonably related duties as assigned. Qualifications: Required: + High school diploma or equivalent (G.E.D.) and approximately 2 years of volunteer management and/or community outreach/youth teaching experience. + Ability to communicate effectively using oral, written and electronic methods. + Proficiency with computer programs such as Microsoft Excel, Word and PowerPoint, as well as Google Drive and document management software. + Ability to prepare, organize, and maintain records, files, reports, teaching aids, and materials. + Ability to work independently and manage multiple tasks in an autonomous work environment. + W as well as work effectively as part of a team, and able to achieve and document measurable results. + Ability to provide both office-based and off-site program support. + Classroom or group management skills. + Strong organizational and customer service skills. + Demonstrated sound judgment, attention to detail, initiative, and commitment to confidentiality. + Ability to occasionally lift 30 to 40 pounds. + Ability to travel, normally requiring a valid driver's license. Preferred: + Associate's Degree or relevant coursework in education, social work or related fields. + Experience with social media and/or the ability to learn Facebook, Twitter, Instagram and more. + Prior experience working with volunteer programs and volunteer recruitment. + Training as a 4-H Volunteer. + Familiarity with Cooperative Extension and 4-H programs.
