The UVA Cancer Center is seeking a Community Engagement Research Specialist to assist in the development of cohort study in the greater Danville area to explore multi-level influences on cancer development. The Community Research Engagement Specialist’s primary responsibility will be to employ community-engaged strategic for study planning and implementation. This is a hybrid, part-time position that will require the ability to be in the Danville areas at least 50% of the time.
Job Duties Include:
Community Awareness and Engagement
Oversee the Community Cohort Study Advisory Team (CCSAT) with includes: assist in the identification and recruitment of advisory team members, coordinate regular advisory committee meetings and maintain communication between the research team and advisory team members
Cultivate relationships with healthcare systems, community groups and organization, business, and other key stakeholders
Work with community partners to develop key messaging and recruitment tools for the study
Host community based listening sessions
Attend relevant community events and forums to share information and opportunities to participate in the study
Coordination of bi-annual study related newsletter for community participants and partners
Coordination of Community Ambassadors
Assist with identifying of potential student groups, community health workers and other key community members to assist in the recruitment of members to participate in the study.
Train and oversee the community ambassadors
Identify opportunities for community ambassadors to participate in community events and outreach.
Data Collection
Assist study team with the development of consenting and data collection protocols
Identity and coordinate data collection sites and events.
Assist in the recruitment of research participants
Obtain informed consent from research participants
Assist in data and specimen collection
Minimum Requirements
Education: Bachelor's degree in related field.
Physical Demands
This is primarily a sedentary job involving extensive use of desktop computers. The job does occasionally require traveling some distance to attend meetings, and programs. This position does require the ability to work occasional extended hours, evenings or weekends and requires local travel.
