Parks and Recreation is seeking a passionate and dedicated individual to lead initiatives aimed at enhancing access, representation, and engagement for all community members. In this vital role, you will collaborate with various City departments and community partners to drive equity efforts, fostering a strong sense of belonging across our diverse community. Essential Functions + Develop and propose strategies to assist in efforts for reviewing and revising City practices, departmental public-facing program procedures, initiatives, and public engagement plans to ensure efforts reflect City values and community goals. + Assist departments in assessing and measuring the impact of efforts in making City program service delivery more accessible and equitable. + Provide suggestions to department heads for improving processes and removing access barriers within the City's programs and operations. + Work in partnership with all City departments to support development of equity-based programs, including key performance indicators. + Serve as staff to the joint City-County JEDI Advisory Board, coordinating meeting logistics, agenda creation, and conveying information between the board and respective City staff and officials; serve as a key partner in coordinating education and outreach events throughout the community. + Collaborate, engage, and foster relationships throughout the community, including advocacy groups, nonprofit organizations, private businesses and other local government entities. + Serve as liaison between City departments, divisions, and outside agencies in establishing goals and objectives to encourage and improve representative participation within City projects and contracts. + Communicate, regularly and effectively, with various stakeholders to ensure the City’s efforts align with community partners and support all community members, and to relay the progress of City equity initiatives. + Support and facilitate the development of universal community goals that the City can directly address or influence, along with targeted strategies to support marginalized populations in reaching these goals. + Perform other duties, as assigned. Knowledge, Skills and Abilities + Knowledge of public administration principles, policies, and practices, including project management/planning, public relations, training, policy, and program development. + Knowledge of community engagement, equity, and inclusion concepts, procedures, and practices. + Knowledge of principles and practices in organizational Diversity, Equity and Inclusion efforts. + Skill in integrating and synthesizing viewpoints to build alignment of diverse perspectives to achieve positive outcomes. + Skill in public speaking, with the ability to train and present data, reports, and other findings to diverse groups and individuals, while facilitating positive outcomes and maintaining a calm demeanor. + Skill in managing multiple projects with keen detail and accuracy, and the ability to prioritize tasks with shifting priorities and timeline demands. + Skill in analyzing and implementing policies and procedures to attain project goals and objectives. + Skill in operating office equipment, using various computer software and databases, including Microsoft 365, and learning job-specific applications and equipment. + Skill in communicating in person and writing, with the proven ability to establish and maintain effective working relationships with people of diverse identities, perspectives, and cultural backgrounds. + Ability to develop Citywide performance indicators and progress benchmarks, including certification or recognition by national groups or accrediting agencies to ensure accountability towards JEDI efforts. + Ability to actively listen and provide creative problem-solving solutions within JEDI discussions, while navigating the impacts on marginalized communities. + Proven ability to successfully engage with BIPOC, LGBTQIA+, people with disabilities, women, and other historically underrepresented groups, addressing needs and concerns from social justice and intersectional and multicultural perspectives regarding all aspects of identity. + Ability to learn departmental and City of Missoula policies, practices, and procedures, including the ability to understand and interpret state and local government regulatory processes. + Proven ability to participate in a team-oriented environment, contributing as lead and/or collaborator to implement practices in an inclusive, high-performance organization. Qualifications and Additional Application Materials + Any combination of education and experience equivalent to five (5) years’ experience in project management, communications, administration of major initiatives or efforts, or another relevant field.
