Community Food Program Associate, Wellness Rising
ESSENTIAL DUTIES AND RESPONSIBILITIES Under the supervision of the Director, Food Pantry Operations, the Community Food Program Associate will support the day-to-day operations of the RiseBoro Food Pantry and food related programming. This role will provide on-site support for food distributions in addition to light administrative support with data collection and general office work. The Community Food Program Associate position also requires a high degree of community-facing work, including building relationships with clients at the food pantry and vendors. The Community Food Program Associate will support RiseBoro Community Partnership’s Wellness Rising programs initiative that helps educate individuals on how food impacts health and well-being. Specific duties and responsibilities include: General Responsibilities + Collect, organize and enter client data into the pantry database + Connect pantry clients with SNAP benefits as needed + Provide timely response to pantry requests as they come in via various platforms + Obtain and provide client referrals for a Community Health Worker as needed/requested + Participate in staff meetings as well as team building activities + Assist with cooking demonstrations i.e., preparing printed materials, sending produce lists, offering program updates, etc. + Provide client referrals for Community Health Workers as needed/requested + Answering office phone + Scheduling community members for pantry appointments + Other related duties as required by supervisor RiseBoro Food Pantry + Provide critical support in the day-to-day operations of pantry + Unload, stock, organize, and inventory produce and dry goods + Assist in produce distribution and packing bags for clients + Ensure refrigerators and shelves are organized and clean daily + Inspect donations and purchases for expiration dates, freshness, and condition COMPETENCIES + Excellent organizational skills and attention to detail + Genuine interest in improving community health + Bilingual English/Spanish + Must possess strong communication skills with the ability to speak comfortably and courteously to a diverse population while maintaining a professional and warm demeanor + Maintain a positive attitude, demonstrate strong interpersonal and customer service skills + Ability to accommodate a flexible schedule; work adjusted hours + Ability to travel to and from designated community program-related sites as needed + Ability to problem-solve and think critically + Ability to work under pressure and with a wide variety of people + Must possess the ability to follow verbal and written instructions + Valid driver’s license preferred, or must be willing to obtain a license within 90 days of employment; + Ability to lift up to 50 pounds with assistance. + Ability to stand for an extended period i.e., 6-8 hours + Ability to work in all climates (excluding severe weather) + Commitment to RiseBoro’s mission, vision, and values + Intermediate level computer proficiency using standard Microsoft Office Suite required, particularly MSWord, Outlook, and Excel + Must exercise good judgement and be respectful of confidential client information + Demonstrated commitment to supporting communities that have experienced systemic oppression and bias (i.e., people of color, LGBTQ+ people, immigrants, justice-involved persons, etc.) + Strong verbal and written communication skills; ability to present professionally and represent RiseBoro positively in the community + Ability to understand the concepts of institutional and structural racism and bias and their impact on underserved and underrepresented communities EDUCATION and EXPERIENCE + High School Diploma or equivalent required + NYC Food Protection Certificate a plus Qualifications Equal Employment Opportunity (EEO)/Affirmative Action Policy Statement It is the policy of RiseBoro to provide equal employment opportunity to all employees and applicants for employment.
