All medical students get exposure to basic competencies in global health as it is integrated into the WrightCurriculum, while
many students participate in the Global Health Certificate Program. An important emphasis in this program is that global in not just international, it is also local. A important feature of this “glocal” (global is local) emphasis is to develop the integration of services to refugee patients with the
training of current and future health care providers to serve these patients.
Assist with the development of a “glocal” curriculum for medical students as part of the Global Health program, and its implementation Coordinate and expand opportunities for medical students and other health professions students in the Refugee Clinic at the Five Rivers Family Health Center, and where possible, to extend health care services into refugee patients’ homes Function as a community health advocate with refugee patients to help them access community health and social service resources, navigate systems of care Serve as a liaison between the Global Health Program, Five Rivers Health Centers, and refugee patients, providing leadership to integrate the needs of each Comply with Five Rivers Health Centers’ policies and procedures in completing tasks. Minimum Qualifications Bachelor’s degree in education or social/behavioral science or other science field and six months experience in a community setting OR an Associate’s degree in a social/behavioral science or other science field and three years’ experience in a community setting. Language skills in refugee population languages such as Swahili and Kinyarwanda. Experience using computer software including Word and electronic databases such as Excel and Access. Ability to communicate, both orally and in writing, with people from a variety of socioeconomic and cultural backgrounds. Able to handle a variety of assignments. Must be able to maintain appropriate degree of confidentiality. Local travel within the community may be required so must have a valid driver’s license and/or dependable transportation. Pass an FBI background check as there may be work with children. Preferred Qualifications Master’s degree in a healthcare field preferred Essential Functions and percent of time: 40% Assist in the development and implementation of a “glocal” (global is local) curriculum for the Global Health program. Serve as an educator of current and future health care and social services providers about refugee populations, cultural health beliefs and practices, and about
barriers to accessing and utilizing service resources.

20% Work in and with the Refugee Clinic of the Five Rivers Health Centers to facilitate learning opportunities for medical students and other health professions students.

20% Assist refugee families and individuals with access to and utilization of health and social service resources at Five Rivers Health Centers and elsewhere in the community, and promote positive health behaviors with these families and individuals.

10% Provide outreach, community education, informal counseling and advocacy for refugee families and individuals aimed at increasing their knowledge and self-sufficiency.

10% Assist with appropriate client record keeping, program evaluation, and expansion of the Refugee Clinic at Five Rivers Family Health Center. Essential Functions and percent of time (cont'd): Non-Essential Functions and percent of time: Working Conditions Normal office environment.

This is a grant funded position with continuation dependent on funding. Special contract terms and conditions of employment apply.
