This is a sensitive and responsible position that assists with the provision of direct health care delivery services to adults and children for the FDOH-SJC.
This position is responsible for nursing duties in the areas of sexually transmitted infections, family planning and the provision of contraception, HIV testing and prevention (PrEP), pediatric and adult immunizations, tuberculosis testing and treatment and HIV care. These responsibilities include but are not limited to:
+ Obtains and reviews prior medical records, reports and lab results for patients
+ Obtains health histories
+ Performs phlebotomy as ordered by the provider or under nursing protocol
+ Performs nursing assessments as appropriate
+ Follows the Title X Family Planning Clinical Manual regarding the provision of non-directive counseling and support of patients making decisions related to contraception or basic fertility services
+ Under the direction of the physician or advanced practice registered nurse (APRN) or under nursing protocol, dispenses medication and gives injections
+ Assists the physician or APRN with exams and procedures
+ Reviews and documents immunization histories and provides pediatric and adult vaccines per ACIP guidelines
+ Provides nurse case management support to patients undergoing treatment for active or latent tuberculosis
+ Documents clearly, accurately and timely
Assists Epidemiology and/or Environmental Public Health with the investigation and follow-up of persons diagnosed with a reportable communicable disease as well as the provision of rabies post-exposure prophylaxis. . These duties may include traveling to locate, interview and/or treat clients in the home, at a physician’s office or in a hospital. This position is responsible for ensuring that follow-up is conducted for all reports.

+ Skilled in performing nursing assessments and developing plans of care
+ Ability to talk to others to effectively convey information
+ Ability to listen to what others are saying and ask questions as appropriate
+ Ability to plan and organize work assignments
+ Ability to perform computer skills to enable navigation in an electronic health record and utilize Microsoft Outlook
+ Ability to work independently with minimal supervision
Licensure/registration/certification requirements (If applicable, list the appropriate Florida Statute or federal regulation cite): Licensure as a Registered Nurse 464 F.S.; valid Florida Drivers License.
Other job-related requirements for this position: Incumbent may be required to work before, during and/or beyond normal work hours or days in the event of an emergency. Emergency duty required of the incumbent includes working in special needs or Red Cross shelters, or performing other emergency duties including, but not limited to, responses to or threats involving any disaster or threat of disaster, man-made or natural.
This position has been approved in accordance with Section 110.209, Florida Statutes, Chapter 60L-32 Florida Administrative Code and Collective Bargaining Agreements with the Florida Nurses Association (FNA) and the American Federation of State, County, and Municipal Employees (AFSCME), Florida Council 79. After being evaluated and recommended by the Director of Nursing to perform after hours and weekend on-call duties on a rotating schedule, the incumbent will carry a telephone and respond to emergencies and inquiries. The on-call nurse will make authorizations and referrals when medically necessary and appropriate. The on-call nurse will be compensated $1.00 per hour on-call on any day other than Saturday, Sunday, or a holiday. Saturday, Sunday and holidays’, the on-call nurse will be compensated equal to the amount of one-fourth of the statewide hourly minimum for your classification.
