About the White River State Park: White River State Park is a 250-acre urban state park in Indianapolis. The park is comprised of cultural experiences and outdoor event spaces in the heart of downtown Indianapolis. White River State Park is home to Everwise Amphitheater, IMAX Theater, Indiana State Museum, Eiteljorg Museum of American Indians and Western Art, NCAA Headquarters & NCAA Hall of Champions, Indianapolis Zoo, and the Indianapolis Indians at Victory Field. The only urban state park in the country, White River State Park hosts world-class concerts, arts and cultural exhibits, sporting events, and several meetings and special events throughout the year. Role Overview: The Community Outreach and Events coordinator position is an early-career opportunity and an integral member of the White River State Park events team. The position provides support for all special events in the park, working with the Live Nation special events team and the parking management firm to provide a high level of customer service. At times, the coordinator may be asked to represent the park at external events. You will interact frequently with park visitors and work occasional shifts in the visitor center. You will have a flexible work schedule and will need to be available early mornings, late evenings, and weekends as the events calendar warrants. You should have a passion for White River State Park, events planning and/or community outreach experience, and have superior customer service skills. Salary Statement: The salary for this position traditionally starts at $42,900.00 but may be commensurate with education or work experience. This position is not overtime eligible. A Day in the Life: + Be an enthusiastic and knowledgeable ambassador for White River State Park. + Develop and implement a community outreach plan and calendar. + Serve as on-site event liaison for third-party rentals, including assisting for load in and load out. Ability to work morning, night, and weekends as event calendar warrants. + Assist Director of Events and Visitor Experience with execution of WRSP-owned events + Staff the park visitor center including occasional weekend shifts as needed. + Manage volunteer program and coordinate volunteer day activities. + Work with Director of Events and Visitor Experience to develop and work within events budget. + Work with Live Nation Sales Manager and event planners to successfully attract and execute third-party rentals in the park. + Identify community events (fairs, festivals, workshops, etc.) to attend as a representative of WRSP; set up park information booth at events. + Constantly analyze event team expenditures to find cost savings opportunities. + Performs other duties as assigned. What You'll Need for Success: + Position requires a bachelor’s degree in marketing, communications, event management, tourism management, or related field with a minimum of 2 years of experience, including internships and fellowships. + Unimpeachable integrity and trustworthiness. + Ability to organize meetings, plan functions, and attend events as a representative of WRSP. + Superior time management skills and the willingness to work early mornings, late evenings, weekend, or holiday shifts. + Ability to work independently and be self-motivated. + Ability to work outdoors with occasional physical exertion. + Strong written and oral communications; position requires frequent interactions with park visitors, commissioners, and state government leaders. + Familiarity with White River State Park. + Ability to analyze and solve complex challenges. + Flexibility to adjust work functions as events warrant.
