Community Pets Associate Who We Are ACC is one of the nation’s largest open-admission animal shelters whose mission is to End Animal Homelessness in NYC. Our doors are open 24/7 for people and animals in need making ACC the most unique and full service animal welfare organization in all of New York City. Summary Animal Care Centers of NYC (ACC) is seeking a dynamic, creative, compassionate, organized, and detail-oriented individual to join our team to help carry out our mission of keeping pets together with their human families by providing access to necessary resources. Reporting to our Senior Manager, Community Resources, the Community Pets Associate will be an integral member of the “all-hands-on-deck” Community Pets team. The Associate will be responsible for expanding services specifically in Brooklyn, NY as we await the completion of our Brooklyn Animal Care Center. They will organize clinics and pantries, assist with outreach, communicate with clients, and manage supplies and other resources in order to prevent animal surrenders and keep pets and people together. This is an exciting opportunity to coordinate and grow innovative programming which helps in our mission to end animal homelessness in NYC. Essential Job Functions + Program Development and Coordination: Collaborate with the Community Pets team to identify key neighborhoods in NYC, particularly Brooklyn, for expanding services. Manage data entry for Community Pets initiatives and oversee the logistics for events, including supply delivery and volunteer roles. + Outreach and Relationship Management: Conduct outreach for services, establishing partnerships with veterinary practices and community organizations. Serve as a liaison between ACC and the public, representing the Community Pets Program at events, while also providing effective communication and customer service to pet owners. + Team Support and Resource Management: Work collaboratively with Community Pets team members on various tasks, including the acquisition and tracking of supplies for programming. Maintain dynamic relationships with volunteers and assist in the management of program communications and inquiries, ensuring a responsive and organized approach to community engagement. Qualifications: + Bilingual or working proficiency in Spanish - strongly preferred. + A valid and current driver’s license and ability to comfortably drive an ACC cargo van in the boroughs of NYC – strongly preferred. + Ability to work a varying schedule that includes weekend days, and the ability to work successfully both in the field and in an office. + Ability to organize, manage, and execute successful events and projects. + Ability to travel to and work in all five boroughs of NYC for community events. + Ability to remain calm, assertive, and professional in stressful situations. + Detail-oriented multi-tasker with excellent writing and verbal communication skills is required. + An outgoing “people person” who uses supportive, non-judgmental communication with people of varying backgrounds, income levels, cultures, and struggles. + A self-starter who works well independently and as part of a team. High level of integrity, professionalism and punctuality. Excellent problem-solver, and flexible, innovative thinker. + Computer literacy in Microsoft Office, Google Workspace, and Airtable, with ability to learn new databases and software, such as shelter databases and purchasing software. + Comfortable calling and speaking on the phone with clients, program sites, and other various entities. + Experience and comfort being around animals, including hands-on experience with dogs and cats preferred. Education and Work Experience: High School diploma required. College degree or some college preferred. 2+ years of experience in non-profit work, community outreach, social work, advocacy, or counseling required. Significant experience maintaining detailed records required. Knowledge about dogs and cats and very comfortable being around all kinds of dogs and cats required.
