Position: Community Support Specialist for DDP Montgomery County
Department: Developmental Disabilities Program, Montgomery County, PA
Availability of Position: Immediately
Schedule: Full time 8:00 am to 4:00 pm, Monday-Friday
Reporting Relationship: Reports to Pottstown Community Options Program Coordinator
Salary: $16.65 per hour; Non-Exempt

Description of Position:

 

This position is a non-exempt position with responsibility for providing and assisting in the coordination of day/vocational supports for individuals in the Pottstown Community Options Program.

The Community Support Specialist (CSS) is responsible for supporting individuals with developmental disabilities to integrate into the community, volunteer and/or work activities in accordance with federal, state, local and agency guidelines.  This person acts as an important role model for individuals supported by the program.  He/she is responsible for assisting the supervisor in assessing the needs and interests of the individuals served and for seeing that these needs and interests are addressed through community activities.  This employee assists in maintaining a healthy emotional and physical environment for individuals supported by the program and assures that the program in all ways reflects the needs and individuality of all people served.  This employee also shares in the responsibility for the image that the facility, individuals supported by the program, and staff present to the community.  This employee’s role is to help the person served achieve his/her greatest potential through individualized support, while at the same time being sensitive to the personal needs of each person.

Qualifications

Requirements: 

Minimum requirement of a High School Diploma/GED and 2 years relevant experience in the field.  Experience should include support to people with a range of Developmental Disabilities, including individuals with dual diagnoses and self-injurious behavior.  Experience in a related field and demonstrated ability to assume further responsibilities will be considered.Ability to effectively communicate and work with persons we provide services to, management, staff, families community employers, case managers, other service providers and funding sources in a respectful and courteous manner.  Ability to anticipate problems and to initiate problem solving. Child Protection Clearances PA Act 153 requires that all prospective employees complete the following clearance and background checks prior to employment: PA Child Abuse History Clearance, PA State Police Criminal Record Check and FBI Criminal Record/Fingerprint Check. Meets the Child Protection Clearances required by PA Act 153 along with renewals every five years.It is essential to support The Salvation Army by having an appreciation and understanding of The Salvation Army mission.
