POSITION DESCRIPTION: Coordinate and implement Engineering and Non-Engineering Safety activities of the Community Traffic Safety Program (CTST). Liaison between Community Traffic Safety Teams (CTST) and the Florida
Department of Transportation. Coordinate networking functions between local teams within the District. Assist Teams with Community functions that relate to traffic and safety improvements. Conduct and/or attend local and statewide meetings to identify methods to improve the Community Traffic Safety Program. Conduct periodic evaluations of the Community Traffic Safety Teams..
Develop new Community Traffic Safety teams in the district by recruiting local government, law enforcement, public and private sector support for the program. Promote the Community Traffic Safety Program using the Highway Safety Grant Program. Conduct or attend local meetings with the Community Traffic Safety Teams in the District. Works with local law enforcement to target special enforcement at spot and corridor locations. Maintain a log documenting dates enforcement wasconducted.
Develop, promote, and support safety campaigns to address critical areas at the district level and campaigns from statewide safety initiatives. Produce evaluation reports for each campaign.
Apply, administer, and coordinate with the state the Community Highway Safety Grant Program (402 Grant), which involves submitting application, producing the budget, approving payment of funds allowed by the grant and producing quarterly reports detailing actions taken and associated costs. Approve purchase/requisition of educational/promotional items using funding from the grant and distribute promotional materials.
KNOWLEDGE, SKILLS AND ABILITIES: Knowledgeable of and skilled at team building with successful experience in developing and nurturing collaborative relationships internally within the Department and externally. Knowledgeable of and skilled at identifying and resolving problems with attention for detail. Skilled at promoting and maintaining safety-oriented culture within our organization. Skilled at setting priorities within a limited budget. Skilled at applying and managing federally grant programs such as 402 federal grant. Knowledgeable of contract and grant management principles and practices. Ability to manage marketing and outreach projects and social media (Facebook, Twitter, etc.). Skilled at organizing meetings and resources to support and develop educational and enforcement events or safety initiatives. Ability to speak and present to large audiences. Ability to prepare talking points for media interviews and participate in media interviews. Ability to communicate effectively using verbal and written communication. Ability to use a personal computer and use software such as Microsoft Office (Outlook, Excel, Word, and Power Point). Skilled at networking with local agencies and creating relationships in the community to improve traffic safety. Knowledge of the Florida Strategic Highway Safety Plan. Skilled at interpreting and disseminating traffic engineering related data.
OTHER JOB RELATED REQUIREMENTS: While on duty status, the incumbent of this position may be required to drive a state owned or leased vehicle to perform the duties of the position.
MINIMUM QUALIFICATIONS: A bachelor's degree in communications, public relations, journalism, or a similar field and one year of professional experience in communications, public relations, community involvement, customer service, preparation of media communication, collateral materials, special event planning, preparation of sketches and talking points, development of educational campaigns, and social media management. A master’s degree from an accredited college or university in communications or public relations can substitute for one year of required experience. Professional or non- professional experience (internships or co-ops) can substitute on a year for year basis for the required college education.

A Competitive Area Differential (CAD) additive in the amount of $1,976.00 will be added to the annual salary.
