Compliance Counsel
Introduction to the job

We are seeking a dedicated Compliance Counsel for the China region. This role involves staying updated on relevant compliance laws and regulations, and supporting local stakeholders in understanding these updates. The ideal candidate will manage third-party due diligence and risk management processes, particularly in anti-bribery, corruption, and export control.

As Compliance Counsel, this role will handle compliance incidents, conduct investigations, and provide legal advice aligned with industry practices. This role will also coordinate compliance training sessions and promote a culture of ethics within the organization.

The responsibilities include implementing global and local compliance programs in China, and participating in various legal projects. This role requires a proactive professional who can navigate complex regulatory environments and foster a strong compliance culture.

Role and responsibilitiesMonitor Compliance Updates: Stay abreast of relevant compliance updates, including laws and regulations. Provide active support in identifying and explaining these updates to local stakeholders.Third-Party Due Diligence & Risk Management: Conduct and implement third-party due diligence and risk management processes, including performing third party due diligence tasks on antibribery/corruption and export control red flags. Help to build and execute ongoing controls to ensure compliance.Incident Management and Investigations: Assist in managing compliance incidents and conducting thorough investigations.Legal Advice and Guidance: Offer legal advice and guidance in line with industry-leading practices across all areas relevant to local business and operations.Compliance Training: Coordinate and conduct compliance training sessions. Develop training strategies and promote a culture of ethics and compliance within the organization.Implementation of Compliance Programs: Implement global and local compliance programs in China, including but not limited to the Code of Conduct, Anti-Fraud, Anti-Bribery & Corruption, Conflict of Interest, Antitrust and Export Control. Execute and enhance local procedures to align with compliance policies at the country level.Document Management: Manage the filing of contracts and other legal documents efficiently. Maintain and refine ongoing document retention practices.Legal Projects and Support: Participate in various legal projects and support other priorities of the Legal and Compliance department.

Education and experienceBachelor degree in law from a reputable law school, overseas degree preferred5-7 years of work experience at reputable law firm and/or MNC in-house legal department

SkillsAdmitted to practice law in China, qualification in common law jurisdiction is a plusExcellent written and verbal communication and drafting skills in both Chinese and EnglishDiligent, proactive, willing to learn, result-driven, detail-oriented and well-organizedTeam player, ability to work collaboratively with local and global teams
