Job Summary

Provides compliance education to physicians and other applicable staff regarding documentation improvement opportunities for both facility and professional billing. Researches, analyzes, and responds to inquiries regarding compliance, inappropriate coding, denials, and billable services in accordance with all federal and state regulatory guidelines while adhering to regulations prohibiting unbundling and other questionable practices. Assists with compliance, documentation, and billing questions to ensure compliant coding and billing. Develops educational materials and trains and instructs and/or provides technical support to medical providers and appropriate staff to address issues or new requirements. Helps identify areas for education opportunities based on industry performance, regulatory focus areas and risk areas within the organization. Ensures strict confidentiality of financial records. Provides compliance conferences, workshops, webinars, and in-house sessions to convey updated information and changes in coding and/or regulations. Assists Chief Compliance Officer with regulatory research and stays current on all updated or new regulatory issues. Provides monthly regulatory updates to Chief Compliance Officer and other departmental leaders. Performs miscellaneous job-related duties as assigned. Reports directly to the Chief Compliance Officer.

Minimum Qualifications

Minimum Education: High School Diploma or Equivalent
Minimum Years of Experience: 7 Years of experience in coding medical office records
Substitutable Education & Experience (Optional): 7 Years of experience can be substituted for an Associate’s Degree in a Health Care field with 5 years of experience or a Bachelor’s Degree with 3 years of experience.
Required Certifications/Licensure: Certified Professional Coder (CPC), CCS, RHIA®, RHIT®, CPMA, or CCS-P®
Required Training: Background in coding guidelines and regulatory laws for federal and state payors.

Detail oriented with excellent follow-through. Ability to take initiative and work with minimal supervision. Ability to communicate and cooperate with employees of all levels Report results of compliance education to the Chief Compliance Officer. Educate physicians and staff as requested, advising them on appropriate coding for billing purposes. Duties & Responsibilities Prepares or facilitates educational modules for physicians regarding the best coding methodologies. Adhere to organization wide policies. May travel to our locations throughout the organization. Must keep license or Coding Degree Current (Continuing education per approval of Director of AFS). Performs all other duties as assigned by the Compliance Officer.
