Compliance Engineer 1 (Electrical)

Overview We are seeking a full-time Compliance Engineer 1 in our Cary, NC location. In this role, you will be responsible for partnering with cross functional engineering teams and outside testing labs to achieve EMC, safety and radio transmitter certifications and creating and implementing regulatory compliance plans for basic products. Essential Functions Partners with mentors to certify Garmin products that integrate satellite and wireless technologies. Consistently applies compliance standards and procedures in the creation/execution of compliance plans for products through final product approval with significant oversight Collaborates with experienced Compliance Engineers to perform safety-critical component datasheet review and some schematic design review where safety standards require redundancy to prevent hazardous conditions Investigates/determines causes of testing discrepancies between outside labs and Garmin, with mentoring Communicates compliance plan elements, expectations and deliverables to project team, while providing visibility to supervisor or mentor Identifies strongest technical rationale for declaring compliance of new designs based on similarity, using techniques established by more experienced compliance engineers Updates compliance department knowledgebase to reflect new requirements and standards, with oversight. Offers process improvement suggestions, thoroughly documents work in an organized manner, and demonstrates proficient planning/communication with other departments Demonstrates ability to see compliance related risks that are a threat to project schedules Utilizes sound problem solving techniques to provide reliable solutions for a variety of problems Demonstrates a sense of urgency, commitment and focus on the right priorities in developing solutions in a timely fashion Applies Garmin’s Mission, Vision, Values and Quality Policy and enthusiastically exhibits a desire to see Garmin succeed Basic Qualifications Bachelor’s Degree in Electrical Engineering, Mechanical Engineering or Computer Engineering or another relevant field OR an equivalent combination of education and experience Excellent academics (cumulative GPA greater than or equal to 3.0 as a general rule) with the demonstrated ability to apply learned knowledge Demonstrated strong and effective verbal, written, and interpersonal communication skills Must demonstrate the capability to apply compliance and regulatory standards in the creation and development of compliance plans Must demonstrate the ability to use and apply engineering tools specific to electrical engineering (ex. multimeters, oscilloscopes, network analyzers, spectrum analyzers, schematic design and PCB layout programs, etc.) Must demonstrate the capability to perform basic compliance pre-screening Desired Qualifications Experience with ESD, EMC, EMI or product safety testing and country certifications or homologations with ability to review designs and offer suggestions for improvements Previous work or internship experience with circuit design for consumer or aviation products Previous work or internship experience at a commercial testing laboratory Bachelor of Science in Electrical Engineering (BSEE) Garmin International is an equal opportunity employer.
