Job Description
The Component Engineer will collaborate with engineering teams to identify replacements for obsolete electronic components, materials, and mechanical components from preferred vendors.
ResponsibilitiesMaintain and improve obsolescence process and documentation.Lead efforts for the Product and Component Engineering team to create effective component engineering processes.Complete all Component Engineering tasks including selecting alternate parts, reviewing component requirements to verify replacement parts, managing inventory part numbers, maintaining internal databases, and maintaining Approved Parts Lists.Present information on all reports clearly and consistently.Analyze and respond to technical and non-technical questions accurately.Focus on cost reduction and analysis efforts, maintaining ethical standards when dealing with suppliers.Attend and participate in Obsolescence Meetings, Design Reviews, Material Review Boards (MRB), Failure Review Boards (FRB), and Change Review Boards (CRB).Stay current on all Component Engineering issues and create reports to clarify current issues when needed.Evaluate results of cost comparisons of components between vendors.Support procurement team in parts acquisition by generating RFPs.Essential SkillsExperience evaluating manufacturing components.Understanding of component/system reliability.Experience using preferred vendor lists to source components.Additional Skills & QualificationsExperience working within military standards (Military Handbook: Reliability Prediction of Electronic Equipment).Understanding and experience with dimensioning and tolerancing (ASME Y15.5 M-2009).Work Environment
This role is on-site and involves working with multiple engineering teams across various departments. The work environment is dynamic with opportunities for exposure to multiple teams. Employees receive 40 hours of accrued vacation, 6 paid holidays, and paid sick leave.
