Component Engineer

**EchoStar** has an exciting opportunity for a Component Engineer in our **Hughes Network Systems** division. Hughes is engaged in research and development of cutting-edge satellite communication equipment & systems, engineering electro-mechanical solutions to electronic packaging challenges at the chip, board, and enclosure level. This position will be located at our headquarters in **Germantown, MD** .
**Responsibilities:**
+ Participate in Component Requests, Spec Control drawings, Source Control drawings and Alternate Item Drawings.
+ Maintain component and material data in the SAP database.
+ As a Configuration Control Board (CCB) member, participate in the review and approval of the Engineering Change Notices (ECN).
+ Implement changes to Component Engineering documentation as needed.
+ Work closely with engineers from multiple disciplines to generate and maintain bills of materials, process specification documents, and help with component selection based upon design, manufacturing, and environmental requirements.
+ Advise on component supplier roadmaps, supplier technology advancements, and bring recent industry innovations into product designs.
+ Research equivalent components and material.
+ Develop multiple sources for components.
+ Responsible for approving new electronic & mechanical components to satisfy requirements.
+ Maintain the approved parts list or approved vendors list.
+ Apply best practices for configuration control.
**Basic Requirements:**
+ Bachelors degree in Electrical Engineering or related technical field.
+ 4+ years of experience working as a component engineer.
+ 2+ years of experience reading and understanding datasheets and compare components for equivalency.
+ Prior experience working with engineering or procurement teams in component selection.
**Preferred Qualifications:**
+ Familiar with Digital, RF, and Electrical/Mechanical components.
+ Working knowledge of all types of electrical and electronic components.
+ Excellent communications (verbal and written), scheduling, organizational skills.
+ Experience with Microsoft Office tools (Word, Excel, Outlook).
+ Experience with read/write access to SAP ERP systems for data management.
+ Exposure to various materials (metals, plastics, chemicals).
+ Knowledge of EU environmental regulations such as RoHS, REACH, and WEEE.
+ Current knowledge of the state of the industry.
+ Working knowledge of types of electrical and electronic components used in communications products.
The base pay range shown is a guideline. Individual total compensation will vary based on factors such as qualifications, skill level and competencies. Candidates need to successfully complete a pre-employment screen, which may include a drug test and DMV check.
Will be eligible for discretionary bonus, with funding based on company performance.
