We are currently seeking talented individuals for a Component Inspector position at the Rocket Center, WV location just outside of Cumberland MD.  The Allegany Ballistics Laboratory (ABL) site in Rocket Center designs, develops, and manufactures tactical rocket motors, medium caliber ammunition, composite components and end items, and fuze and electronics equipment. For decades, the dedicated and highly skilled team at ABL have supported national security efforts by developing and building defense systems for DoD customers and U.S. allies. 

Rocket Center, WV is located along the North Branch Potomac River in Mineral County, West Virginia and is home to the Allegany Ballistics Laboratory (ABL), a government installation operated by Northrop Grumman. Known for its scenic mountain landscapes, rolling hills and state parks, the region offers a multitude of outdoor recreational opportunities to include hiking, mountain biking, skiing, fishing, hunting and whitewater rafting. Northrop Grumman Defense Systems designs, builds, and delivers space, defense, and aviation-related systems to customers around the world. Our main products include launch vehicles and related propulsion systems; missile products, subsystems, and defense electronics; precision weapons, armament systems and ammunition; satellites and associated space components and services; and advanced aerospace structures.

Duties:

Perform routine inspections using certified variable and attribute inspection gagesPerform first piece and in process inspections on precision components utilizing surface plate setups and CMM’sOperate CMM’s to inspect components or program the CMM in DCC modeConduct sample inspections on precision components that are received from outside vendors or manufactured in house.Conducting NDT testing to a Level II classification in accordance with applicable specifications.

Responsibilities:Verify that products being manufactured comply with all specification and drawing requirementsInspect surface conditions for conformance to specifications and workmanship standardsAssure that all inspection points and quality documentation is completed prior to part being released for further processingPrepare and maintain required quality recordsCertify or otherwise approve acceptable partsIdentify non-conforming material and prepare documentation in accordance with proceduresParticipate actively in team environmentWork with manufacturing engineering or quality engineering in problem solving and process improvementsConduct high pressure hydro-testing of various components.

Basic Qualifications:

2 years of experience in a quality/inspection roleAbility to work all three shifts including overtime as neededExperience interpreting and applying GD&T principlesThe ability to obtain a security clearance as requiredExperience using standard measuring tools such as micrometers, indicators, and comparators

Preferred Qualifications:

Ability to operate CMM’s in manual or direct computer control (DCC)Experience in vision systemsExperience in Non-Destructive Testing (NDT)
