Northrop Grumman Aeronautics Systems has an opening for a Composites Modification and Repair Mechanic to join our team of qualified, diverse individuals. This position will be located in El Segundo, CA.
Duties and Responsibilities:
Must be able to perform moderate strenuous physical and repetitious work to include: bending, stooping, kneeling, lifting up to 50 pounds, and working overhead.
Must be able to access small, confined spaces and work in an enclosed environment.
Perform structural modifications and repairs on composite components per engineering drawings and technical manuals.
Inspect damaged composite parts to determine repair requirements and methods.
Fabricate composite parts using hand layup, prepreg, or wet layup processes
Conduct sanding, trimming, and bonding operations to achieve precision in repair work.
Operate tools and equipment such as autoclaves, ovens, vacuum pumps, and sanding machines.
Mix and apply adhesives, resins, and coatings as required for the repair process.
Perform vacuum bagging and curing operations for composite repair and ensure process accuracy.
Maintain documentation of repairs performed, including inspection and quality control records.
Follow safety protocols and ensure compliance with industry standards and company policies.
Collaborate with engineers and QA teams to resolve repair challenges.
Basic Qualifications:
High School Diploma or GED
1 year of experience with composite manufacturing and or automated machine operation
1 year of experience mixing and applying adhesives, resins, and coatings as required for the repair process.
Must be able to access small, confined spaces and work in an enclosed environment for extended periods of time.
Preferred Qualifications:
Proficient in CNC programming and trouble shooting
Knowledge of composites material, resins systems, curing processes
Experience working in tight spaces while repairing parts
Salary Range: $50,502.40 - $90,500.80The above salary range represents a general guideline; however, Northrop Grumman considers a number of factors when determining base salary offers such as the scope and responsibilities of the position and the candidate's experience, education, skills and current market conditions.Employees may be eligible for a discretionary bonus in addition to base pay. Annual bonuses are designed to reward individual contributions as well as allow employees to share in company results.
