Summary:

The Aerospace Engineer will work within the Commercial Fan & Compressor Aerodynamics team to perform aerodynamic design and test of fans, boosters/LPCs, and high-pressure compressors, as well as related compression aerodynamic components. In this role you will coordinate with internal and external stakeholders including airframers, global partners, leadership staff, and the broader compression aero team to provide aerodynamic performance assessments of gas turbine engine components and commercial aviation propulsion systems. You will support advanced programs such as technologies related to CFM RISE, as well as legacy fielded products such as GE90 or GEnx.

Essential Responsibilities

Execute, with guidance from senior engineering resources, aerodynamic analysis, design, test, and integration functions required to define and support components, assemblies, and systems that meet business and program / product requirementsPrepare and present technical information to internal and external customersPerform computational fluid dynamics (CFD) studies including geometry modification, meshing, solver execution, post-processing, and interpretation of the CFD resultsUse and develop in-house engineering tools to perform aerodynamic evaluations, such as Tacoma CFD solverPlan and execute test programs achieving test objectives to technical requirements within schedule and budget constraintsDocument and communicate aero design, analysis, and test data resultsShare engineering information, lessons learned, and promote open dialogueAssure proper documentation of technical data generated for the assigned projects and/or tasks consistent with engineering policies and procedures
 

Qualifications/Requirements

Bachelor’s degree from an accredited college/university in Aerospace or Mechanical Engineering, or related discipline with an emphasis in compression aerodynamicsMinimum of 3 years of related turbomachinery experience

Desired Characteristics

Advanced Degree (MS/PhD) in Aerospace Engineering or Mechanical EngineeringExperience in engine or aircraft aerodynamic design, CFD, or test supportFamiliarity with CAD software, meshing, and CFD toolsDemonstrated passion for the aviation industryHighly motivated and passionate with excellent communication skillsProven teaming and collaboration capability
