Computational Biologist for High Content Imaging (all genders)
We are looking for a highly creative and motivated Computational Biologist for High Content Imaging (all genders) to join Bayer’s Chemical Biology, Imaging and Omics (CBIO) sub-cluster within Drug Discovery Sciences in Berlin or Wuppertal, Germany. At CBIO, you are part of an interdisciplinary team of scientists within the R&D organization and you support projects across the R&D portfolio and contribute to excellence in early drug discovery. You provide your expertise in Computational Biology together with your state-of-the-art data analysis skillset to design and interpret High Content Imaging and Chemical Biology / Omics experiments to address drug discovery challenges ranging from target and modality identification to drug development.
YOUR TASKS AND RESPONSIBILITIES
Focus on pivotal scientific questions in drug discovery projects as a purpose-driven drug hunter, whose contributions will provide critical insights for go/no-go decisions, advancing our understanding of targets and modalitiesDevelop, implement, and apply cutting-edge computational tools to analyze complex datasets, including Fluorescence Microscopy data (High Content Imaging, Cell Painting) and Chem-Omics data (Chemo-/Proteomics, Transcriptomics), to uncover and characterize links between targets and modalitiesJoin drug discovery project teams and contribute to target identification and validation, modality discovery, and mode-of-action deconvolution, translating multi-parametric data into testable hypothesesFacilitate the integration and contextualization of imaging and multi-omics datasets, aiming to gain novel insights into disease biologyCollaborate across disciplines as part of an international and interdisciplinary research team and work iteratively with wet lab scientists and data scientists to develop strategies and methods for identifying relevant chemical and biological features within complex datasetsScout and assess innovation in partnership with CROs, biotech, and academia to harness valuable external insightsEngage with the scientific community, including publishing research, in order to strengthen the visibility of our research and demonstrate scientific excellence

PhD in Computational Biology, Systems Biology, Chemical Biology, Biology or related Life Sciences paired with a solid foundation in Computational Biology and strong background in experimental Biology with focus on High Content Imaging2-4 years of postdoctoral experience or relevant industry experience:
- Experience with data analysis for High Content Imaging datasets is required. Experience in proteomics or transcriptomics data analysis is beneficial.
- Proven track record in designing and interpreting complex biological experiments, such as those involving Fluorescence Microscopy (High Content Imaging and Cell Painting) and Chem-Omics (Chemo-/Proteomics, Transcriptomics)
- Experience and expertise in Chemo-informatics or Chemo-genomics is a strong advantage, whereas hands-on wet lab experience with one or more of the experimental technologies (imaging assays or proteomics) is also a plusProven ability to generate novel biological insights from quantitative biological datasets using your deep understanding of chemical biology, cell biology, disease biologyProficiency in programming languages (such as Python or R) as well as understanding of statistical principles, methods and tools relevant to Computational Biology is requiredStrong interpersonal and communication skills, thrive in cross-disciplinary teams, and are adept at collaborating with scientists from diverse backgrounds to reach joint goalsExcellent command of English, both spoken and written, is essential
