Thermo Fisher Scientific's Materials & Structural Analysis Division (MSD) supplies innovative solutions for microscopy and microanalysis. We provide SEMs, TEMs, and DualBeam™ FIB-SEMs combined with advanced software suites to take customers from questions to usable data by combining high-resolution imaging with physical, elemental, chemical, and electrical analysis across scales and modes - through the broadest sample types.

About the Role

The Advanced Technology Group in Hillsboro is seeking a highly skilled and motivated Computational Scientist to join one of its dynamic research teams. As a Computational Scientist in our Research & Development team, you will have the unique opportunity to contribute to the pursuit of research and innovation in applications of scientific computing. We are looking for someone who has a strong computational physics background and demonstrated experience in numerical methods.

Key ResponsibilitiesDesign, develop, and implement computational models and simulations to analyze complex physical interactions.Develop and optimize algorithms for large-scale simulations, ensuring computational efficiency and accuracy.Collaborate with teams from various departments to gain a comprehensive understanding of project requirements and define technical objectives.Analyze and interpret simulation data, providing insights and recommendations to improve system performance and reliability.Integrate data from multiple sources to refine models and improve the accuracy of simulations.Create and deliver technical reports, research papers, and presentations to individuals both within and outside the organization.Lead and mentor junior team members, encouraging a collaborative and innovative work environment.Manage projects or sub-components of projects in alignment with the group's technology roadmap.Participate in the development of intellectual property, including invention disclosures and patent applications.

QualificationsPh.D. in Physics, Applied Mathematics, Computational Science, or a related field.Minimum of 5 years of experience in computational physics or a similar role.Proven leadership experience, including project management and team mentorship.Proficiency in programming languages such as Python, C++, and experience with high-performance computing (HPC) environments.Strong background in numerical methods, algorithms, and data analysis techniques.Excellent analytical, problem-solving, and critical thinking skills.Effective collaboration and teamwork abilities, fostering a harmonious work environment.

Preferred QualificationsExperience in developing simulations for complex physical systems.Familiarity with machine learning techniques and their application to computational physics.Experience with version control systems, collaborative software development, and continuous integration practices.
